The flat 1-mile oval of Phoenix Raceway presents the perfect backdrop as the 2026 NASCAR season begins to turn up the temperatures. Although it’s no longer a Championship Race preview, the updated NASCAR odds reflect its traditional intensity and continued importance to drivers, as Brad Keselowski elaborated on below:

Updated NASCAR Odds for Straight Talk Wireless 500 at Phoenix Raceway
Oh baby, if Saturday’s practice sessions are any indication, the Straight Talk Wireless 500 should be an exciting race. We had a significant amount of falloff, and rising temperatures should make Sunday’s race even more edgy for drivers. The latter being a topic I asked last fall’s winner and early week favorite, Ryan Blaney, about before hitting the track for practice and qualifying:
Preparing for temperature differences & status as the favorite; See what Ryan Blaney has to say regarding both:#NASCAR pic.twitter.com/sRfbOILXc3
— brian twining (@Brian_Twining) March 7, 2026In those sessions, numerous cars, led of course by the Penske garage, and back-to-back spring Phoenix winner Christopher Bell, looked to be very strong on the long run. There was, in fact, a very good reason both Ryan Blaney and Christopher Bell came into the week among the favorites. For Penske in particular, the IndyCar/NASCAR combo weekend couldn’t have gotten off to a better start as well.
It started with David Malukas, the first-year Penske driver, grabbing the pole and parlaying that into a 3rd-place finish in Saturday afternoon’s race. Only to be bested by teammate and multi-time Indy 500 winner Joseph Newgarden, who, after a very NASCAR-style, late race caution, made a Blaney-esque charge from 10th, with 32 to go, to win the Good Ranchers 250. Joseph then put the Cup guys on notice, playfully challenging them in his post-race press conference, saying, “They better win.”
It wasn’t just IndyCar or the top dogs popping on Saturday, as there were a couple of surprise Cup Series performers too. None more so than Daniel Suarez, who posted the overall fastest single lap, the 2nd best 15-lap, and the 5th best 20 and 25-lap splits during practice. He backed that up with a 26.744 lap time in qualifying, good for 4th on the grid.
He’s joined on the 2nd row by the first of three Penske drivers starting inside the top 5, Austin Cindric, who held the fastest lap of qualifying before Joey Logano’s pole-winning 26.561 lap time. It’s Kyle Larson beside Joey on the front row, with Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, Carson Hocevar, Tyler Reddick, William Byron, and Josh Berry making up the remainder of the top 10.
NASCAR Odds: Straight Talk Wireless 500
*Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn ImagesSaturday’s events have solidified Ryan Blaney’s status as the race favorite, with him re-opening around 3-to-1 almost everywhere. Meanwhile, teammate Joey Logano’s blazing speed in qualifying after a solid practice has skyrocketed him to second on the board, with the final Penske driver, Austin Cindric, also seeing his odds shorten inside +1000.
Overall, there are five drivers with odds shorter than double-digits, and a whopping 10 or more with odds of +2000 or shorter. It’s quite clear that today’s eye-opening practice sessions and forecasted major temperature shift have sportsbooks thinking the race could still be wide open. Whether or not that’s the case, we’ll see. Get a quick look at the updated Straight Talk Wireless odds on DraftKings Sportsbook below for reference.

Books are apparently taking their sweet time in dropping post-qualifying odds, so there isn’t a ton out there just yet. The available numbers are, however, extremely short and not quite enticing enough to fire on. There are a couple of drivers piquing my interest, with Carson Hocevar topping that list. He was very fast in practice and put his No.77 Spire car on the 4th row in qualifying. Top Chevrolet would be the market I’d target, with odds much longer than his placements, making the high-risk bet have an equally high reward.
