Eleanor Roberts, 12, North Carolina Aquatic Club (NC): Roberts rewrote her personal record book at the North Carolina Swimming Age Group Championships last weekend, setting eight new best times while earning four individual podium finishes. The 12-year-old North Carolina Aquatic Club product’s top swim came in the 50 free, where her new best time of 24.64 ranks her 7th in the girls’ 11-12 age group this season. She also cracked the top 25 seasonal rankings in the 200 free (1:57.48), 50 breast (31.63), 100 free (54.29) and 50 fly (26.94), and added bests in the 100 IM (1:02.37), 500 free (5:21.40) and 100 breast (1:10.72).
David Bao, 11, TAC Titans (NC): Also racing at the North Carolina Age Group Championships, Bao had a very impressive showing by setting seven best times, moving into the top 10 this season for his age in all of them. The 11-year-old TAC Titan’s top performance came in the 200 fly, where his time of 2:14.07 slots him into 2nd this season among 11-year-old boys. He also moved to 3rd this season in the 50 back (27.96), 200 back (2:11.10) and 400 IM (4:41.88), 4th in the 100 back (1:00.42), 7th in the 100 IM (1:02.90) and 9th in the 200 IM (2:15.21).
Kaila Perry, 9, Crystal Coast Aquatics (NC): Competing in the 10 & under age group at the NC Champs, Perry set five best times, highlighted by a trio of 3rd-place finishes in the 50 breast, 100 breast and 50 fly. In the 50 breast, the Crystal Coast Aquatics product clocked 35.21 to rank 4th this season among nine-year-old girls, while in the 100 breast, her time of 1:18.35 sits 2nd in the age category. She also moves to 6th this season in the 50 fly (30.14), 15th in the 100 fly (1:12.24) and 23rd in the 100 free (1:04.42).
Aya Gillis-Pade, 14, Santa Clara Swim Club (PC): Gillis-Pade had a phenomenal performance at the Speedo Sectionals in Roseville, earning five podium finishes and setting new best times in five events. Headlining her meet was what she did in the 200 back, dropping more than a second to clock 1:55.20 and move up to 19th all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group and 1st this season. She also moves to 3rd this season among 13-14 girls in the 1000 free (9:58.05), 4th in the 100 back (53.99), 7th in the 200 free (1:48.71) and 13th in the 400 IM (4:20.09). Her 100 back swim, which improved on her previous best of 54.44, also ranks her 54th all-time in the 13-14 age group.
Ben Yang, 14, Evolution Racing Club (CA): Competing at the Oceanside Sectionals, Yang set new best times in six events, moving up in the top 100 all-time rankings for 13-14 boys in two of them. The 14-year-old Evolution Racing Club swimmer cracked 1:40 for the first time in the 200 free, clocking 1:39.93 to rank 45th all-time (also 3rd this season), while in the 200 breast, his time of 2:03.82 ranks 60th all-time (also 6th this season). He also set PBs to move into 13th this season in the 13-14 age group in the 1000 free (9:36.12), 15th in the 100 free (47.04), 22nd in the 400 IM (4:03.72) and 30th in the 200 IM (1:54.95).
