Laid-off KTLA weathercaster Kacey Montoya will return for a few more weeks ...Middle East

News by : (Los Angeles Daily News) -

A week after KTLA laid off five longtime journalists, one of them, weathercaster Kacey Montoya, will return to the air on Saturday, March 7, to work the weekend weather desk until sometime in April.

When Montoya, fellow meteorologist Mark Kriski, anchors Lu Parker and Glen Walker, and reporter Ellina Abovian were let go by station owner Nexstar on Wednesday, Feb. 25, they were given 60 days’ notice until their positions would officially end.

Montoya decided this week that she’d spend that time doing the weather report, as she has since joining the KTLA newsroom in 2013.

“I want to thank everyone who’s reached out for your love and support that you’ve shown me over the past week,” Montoya said in a short video posted on her Instagram page on Thursday, March 5. “I had no idea that I had made such an impact on so many of your lives.

“To say that I’m overwhelmed would be an understatement, so honestly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for that.

“As you know, my time at KTLA is coming to an end after 13 years,” she continued. “But I truly love this job and love being able to come into your home and bring you the forecast and bring you my animal welfare stories.”

Montoya said she will work her usual weekend shifts through March and into early April when her time officially ends.

“I hope you’ll join me starting this weekend,” Montoya said. “I’ll be running my non-profit, Fix’n Fidos [which raises money to spay and neuter pets in Southern California] full-time during the week and then exploring some other opportunities.

“But in the meantime, join me this weekend so we can celebrate these last few weeks. I’ll see you then.”
