Dad Left 13-Month-Old in Illegally Parked Car, Found in Tow Yard Days Later ...Middle East

A father in Michigan has been arrested after his 13-month-old son was found inside his car that had been impounded days earlier — and was left in a tow yard.

The Harper Woods Police Department confirmed that Orlander Murnell Linson, Jr. was taken into custody and charged with one count of child abuse by leaving a child in a vehicle resulting in physical harm, as well as one count of second-degree child abuse.

The police department said in a press release that officers responded to a call regarding a car on Damman Street on Friday, February 27. The car was reported because it was parked on a restricted side of the street and was blocking a resident’s driveway.

A tow truck responded to the address and hauled the vehicle to an impound lot. The vehicle’s doors were locked, which meant that the tow truck driver was not able to search the car or inventory the items inside of it.

On Saturday, February 28, a detective with the Detroit Police Department contacted Harper Woods police to discuss an investigation regarding a missing child case. During the call, the detective explained that a car belonging to the father of the missing child was impounded by Harper Woods police one day earlier.

“Suspecting that the missing child may still be in the vehicle, Detroit Police and Harper Woods officers immediately responded to the tow yard in Eastpointe and located the crying 1-year-old child in the rear of the vehicle,” the release stated.

WXYZ reported that the boy was pinned between his car seat and the rear passenger door when he was found.

Medics then transported the child to a hospital for treatment, where doctors determined that he was in stable condition. However, they chose to keep him through the weekend for evaluation.

Police also contacted Child Protective Services to inform them about the case.

Harper Woods Police Chief Jason Hammerle shared more information about the case while speaking to local news outlets. Hammerle told WJBK that the victim’s mother reported the child missing on the morning of February 28, while he also applauded the Detroit police detective for helping save the child.

“That detective did an outstanding job by locating the car, considering it wasn’t yet registered to the suspect in this case,” Hammerle said. “He was able to locate the plate number, the VIN number, tracked it down to Woods Towing. And that detective responded immediately to the tow yard. He’s the one that made contact, peered into the windows and found the child in the rear seat.”

After Linson was taken into custody, he attended an initial court appearance and authorities requested he receive a high bond. At the time, they argued that Linson was a serious flight risk.

“Mr. Linson Jr. has 10 active warrants for his arrest, and he does not have a residence at this time,” Deputy Chief Ted Stager said, according to WJBK. “So, if he does bond out, I’m concerned that he may be in the wind, and we have no way to find out where he would be.”

Linson is currently being held on $100,000 bond, and he is scheduled to appear back in court on March 11. It is not currently clear if Linson has entered a plea.
