Al-Sharaa Confirms Evaluation of Syrian Government Ministers ...Syria

News by : (ُEnabbaladi) -

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa confirmed that his government, formed in March 2025, is undergoing an evaluation process, amid reports of potential changes to the cabinet.

Three sources who attended a meeting with al-Sharaa on Tuesday, March 3, said the assessment will review ministers’ performance during the government’s first year in office.

According to the sources, the evaluation criteria focus on each minister’s completed tasks and their tangible impact on the ground, rather than media appearances or public statements.

Speaking to Enab Baladi, the sources added that the presidential evaluation will be conducted annually to monitor ministers’ work methods and progress in their respective portfolios.

Al-Sharaa did not confirm whether cabinet changes will take place in the coming days.

The Syrian Presidency had earlier stated that al-Sharaa met with journalists and civil society activists to discuss the role of media and community initiatives in promoting public awareness and strengthening national responsibility.

The meeting also addressed key domestic challenges and ongoing regional developments.

According to al-Sharaa, the next phase requires integrated efforts and teamwork to serve the national interest and reinforce stability and development.

Poll Reflects Public Views on Anticipated Government Changes

Following reports of a potential government reshuffle, Enab Baladi conducted an online poll to gauge readers’ expectations.

Out of nearly 1,000 participants:

35% believe the changes aim to absorb public discontent and improve the government’s image. 35% see the move as an attempt to introduce genuine changes in performance and policies. 30% consider it merely a redistribution of roles within the same political structure, without substantive reform.

The reports of possible changes come at a time when Syrians face mounting challenges, particularly in key service sectors such as electricity and fuel, alongside rising prices and inflation. Reconstruction efforts in devastated areas also remain stalled.

Over the past year, several agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed in vital economic sectors. However, most have yet to be implemented on the ground.

One Year Since Government Formation

On March 30, 2025, President al-Sharaa announced the formation of a new government, nearly four months after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

At the time, al-Sharaa described the new cabinet as a declaration of shared will to build a new state. He said the government would work to rebuild state institutions based on accountability and transparency, expand opportunities in education and healthcare, and prevent corruption from infiltrating public institutions.

He added that the government’s future plan would focus on preserving and developing human resources, rehabilitating industry, protecting national production, creating a business and investment environment across sectors, reforming monetary policy, strengthening the Syrian pound, and preventing currency manipulation.

The president also stressed the importance of prioritizing citizen protection and enhancing stability, noting that a dedicated Ministry of Sports and Youth had been established to highlight the role of young people.

On January 29, 2025, the new administration announced the appointment of Ahmed al-Sharaa as Syria’s transitional president. It also declared the dissolution of armed factions, security agencies, the People’s Assembly, and the Baath Party, alongside the suspension of the constitution.
