A public zoning hearing is scheduled for March 16 concerning the data center being built in Brandon. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at 6 p.m. in Brandon City Hall, 1000 Municipal Drive.
In August 2025, the city of Brandon announced the $6 billion project from AVAIO Digital Partners, a privately held Connecticut company that builds and operates data centers. It was founded in 2021 by the investment firm AVAIO Capital.
The company stated in the August press release that the data center campus would include sustainable design features, such as rainwater capture and bring jobs and workforce development opportunities. The campus broke ground in September 2025 at the East Metropolitan Center Business and Industrial Park, off of Trickhambridge Road.
“This development will bring high-quality jobs, attract and retain top talent and position Brandon at the forefront of a growing, innovation-driven industry,” said Brandon Mayor Butch Lee said in the August announcement.
However, like other data center projects across Mississippi and the country, the project has faced community pushback over concerns it would drive up electricity prices and pollute the environment. Brandon residents started a petition on Change.org asking Rankin County leaders to guarantee that the data center would not lead to increased energy rates or air or water pollution due to construction. It has over 1,000 signatures.
