UNC Baseball Rides Hot Bats to Home Sweep vs. Le Moyne ...Middle East

News by : (chapelboro) -

The Diamond Heels scored a combined 49 runs across a three-game sweep of Le Moyne at Boshamer Stadium during the weekend. All three games were ended early via the 10-run rule.

Friday’s opening game saw Carolina score five runs in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly, a bases-loaded walk and a bases clearing double from Cooper Nicholson. UNC would keep the line moving with twos runs in the second, two in the fourth and then seven in the fifth, with Nicholson again providing a big hit on a two-run blast.

UNC led 16-3 after Nicholson’s home run and kept the Dolphins off the scoreboard in the sixth and seventh innings, clinching the run-rule win after seven frames. Jason DeCaro earned the win on the mound with five innings pitched.

The Diamond Heels waited longer before breaking the game open Saturday. Le Moyne took an early lead with a run against UNC starter Ryan Lynch in the second inning, but Carolina evened the score in the bottom of the frame with a Carter French sacrifice fly. Nicholson gave UNC the lead in the fourth inning with another sacrifice fly, and that was just the start of a seven-run rally. Perry Hargett and Jake Schaffner each drove in runs with a pair of singles to extend the lead to 5-1, and Erik Paulsen continued his torrid start with a 395-foot three-run blast.

Schaffner would homer again in the sixth, and after a Macon Winslow single to drive home Gavin Gallaher and a wild pitch to bring home Paulsen, UNC led 12-1. Carolina would go on to win 12-2 after seven innings.

Those offensive fireworks paled in comparison to UNC’s display Sunday, as the Diamond Heels scored nine runs in the first inning, five in the third and six in the fifth on their way to a 21-1 win. Three different UNC hitters left the yard, including freshman Jadyn Nunez on a grand slam — the first hit of his collegiate career.

On the mound, Folger Boaz, Tom Chmielewski and Kyle Percival limited the Dolphins to just five hits and a run, as Carolina once again won in seven innings via the run rule.

The weekend sweep marks the first time the Diamond Heels have swept a series with three consecutive run-rule victories. UNC is now 11-1-1 on the season, with seven of those 11 victories coming via the run rule. The weekend series was UNC’s last of the 2026 regular season against a non-conference opponent.

Up next, the Diamond Heels will host Elon at Boshamer Stadium Tuesday night before beginning ACC Play with a three-game series against Virginia in Chapel Hill the following Friday. First pitch for Tuesday’s game against Elon is scheduled for 4 p.m.
