Greeley vigil to bring awareness, justice to victims in Epstein files ...Saudi Arabia

Amanda Kile feels she cannot let children live in a world in which child abuse gets swept under the rug.

After seeing what she calls a lack of transparency regarding the Jeffery Epstein files, Kile started to organize a vigil in Greeley.

The Vigil for Awareness of Epstein Scandal at 3 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park, 2201 23rd Ave., aims to bring attention to Kile’s and others concerns about transparency, as well as to advocate for the enforcement of child protection laws and safeguards to prevent something like this happening again.

“I don’t want my children to grow up in a world where stuff like that exists,” Kile said.

In early February, the Justice Department released millions of pages of files relating to the investigation of Epstein for the sexual abuse of young girls. The hedge fund manager pleaded guilty in 2008 to state charges of soliciting a minor for prostitution out of Florida. He served 13 months in jail and was allowed to out to go to his office during the day.

In 2019, he was arrested again on charges of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls. Prosecutors said he intentionally sought out minors and paid some of his victims to recruit other girls, creating “a vast network of underage victims.”

Epstein died in 2019 in his jail cell, a month after he was indicted on federal sex trafficking charges.

Kile hopes the vigil will help show that people can’t do evil things and then get away with it, and to show others that they can organize to bring awareness to their causes too. The vigil is not meant to point fingers to specific celebrities or politicians named in the files — although Kile said people should not let others’ connections to Epstein slip their minds.

Kile said the vigil is meant to demand justice for the victims and to let the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation know that the public will not let this go.

Jathin Sutterfield learned about the vigil on Facebook and feels it’s important to attend to get the message across that people care and will continue to pay attention.

“You don’t just move on because it’s uncomfortable. You keep asking questions. You demand transparency. You make it clear that justice isn’t optional just because the people involved are powerful,” he said.

Former president Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, testified before Congress about their connection to Epstein this week, with Hillary Clinton stating she had to knowledge of Epstein’s crimes. The Justice Department is also looking into whether files alleging that President Donald Trump assaulted a minor were withheld.

Kimbal Musk, who opened The Kitchen restaurant in Boulder and is the brother of Elon Musk, was also mentioned for dating a woman who appears to have been sexually abused and trafficked by Epstein. Some victims in the Epstein files also had ties to Colorado.

Sutterfield said the Justice Department’s delay in releasing pages and other failures to be transparent do not inspire confidence that the government is taking the issue of young girls being sexually abused seriously. Like Kile, Sutterfield has kids and does not want them to live in a world where abuse gets dismissed.

Tiffany Simmons, who ran for Greeley mayor last year, plans to attend because she believes every single victim matters and deserves justice, she said. She echoed Kile and Sutterfeild, saying that the vigil is about holding people accountable.

“Every withheld file, and uninvestigated lead, is a victim who may never be vindicated and a perpetrator who may never face justice and this is unacceptable,” Simmons said.

Kile plans to continue to hold vigils in Greeley and throughout the state. She’ll post more information about future plans on a private Facebook page she administrates called Greeley! Revolt Against Political Peddo Philias!.
