Tonight, he did it again. This time, taking two more seconds off of his newly minted career best of 3:36.92 in 3:34.90, breaking Ohio State’s Tristan Jankovics’ Big Ten conference and championship records of 3:34.98 and 3:35.51, respectively.
On the day, Bey sliced nearly eight seconds off his pre-meet best and secured the first 400 IM title for the Hoosier men since 1992.
This morning, he became one of just 15 freshmen in history to swim under 4:40 in the 400 IM and entered that list as the 5th-fastest freshman ever. With tonight’s performance, he becomes the 2nd fastest freshman ever, only behind Leon Marchand‘s 3:34.08 from the 2021-2022 season.
He also jumps into the top 10 all-time performers in the 400 IM, moving up from 23rd after prelims, to now 8th fastest in history.

That time makes him the 10th-fastest performer ever in the event.
