On Thursday, our tanking Chicago Bulls will look to lose their 11th consecutive contest and continue their brutal-but-deliberate late-season collapse.
The rising Portland Trail Blazers are heading to the United Center, and both clubs are hoping Portland can pull out the W — even without two of the team’s top scorers.

What To Watch For
What kind of Matas Buzelis will we see out there? Chicago’s most important present player was visibly frustrated after a 131-99 drubbing by the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday, despite scoring a career-best 32 points in the outing. Can he stay dialed in this season, even with his team’s front office blatantly tuning out? Isaac Okoro has become weirdly important for this tanking Bulls squad. The veteran swingman is, by far, Chicago’s best perimeter defender right now (although we’re seeing more flashes from Buzelis these days on that end). And he’s going to likely be asked to stop everyone from Jrue Holiday to Toumani Camara for Thursday’s game. Portland’s best player, All-Star forward Deni Avdija, will sit out with a lingering back issue. Key shooting guard Shaedon Sharpe, another big-time scorer, is sidelined due to a calf injury. Still, the undersized, banged-up Bulls are bad enough that the much bigger Trail Blazers should handily win anyway. The Bulls own Portland’s lottery-protected first-round pick this summer. At 28-31, the Trail Blazers currently occupy the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference, three games behind the eighth-seeded Golden State Warriors. Provided Avdija and Sharpe return healthy for the postseason, Portland will have a good shot at advancing out of the play-in tournament regardless — but snagging at least the No. 8 seed would really help the team’s chances by adding an extra play-in game. Beyond Portland’s pick, the Bulls have their own to think about. At present, Chicago has the ninth-best odds of securing a top-four pick (20.3 percent) or the No. 1 overall selection (4.5 percent) in next year’s draft, per Tankathon.Injury Report
