Peter Woods is an intriguing prospect who has the potential to be a top-10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
And, for the record, I thought that before I saw this clip (h/t Josina Anderson) in which the Clemson product waxes nostalgic about playing with Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears in a Madden video game:
Clemson DL Peter Woods says he sees himself as a top-10 pick. In this clip he talks about what it would be like to play for the Chicago #Bears, adds he met with 17 teams over the last 2 days—the last of which was the New York #Jets. pic.twitter.com/ffwHRiCLCD
— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) February 25, 2026More from Clemson’s Peter Woods:
“It’s going to be a blessing to get drafted by anybody. One thing about Chicago, I think back to my days of Madden, you have a dream to play for any team in the NFL, for real. I played in Madden with Jay Cutler and some of those legends. And that could go for any team, but I would say that it would be a blessing just to be drafted in the National Football League by the Chicago Bears or any team that picks me.”
Welp, I’m not sure I have ever related more to an NFL Draft prospect in my life. I, too, have fond memories of playing as Jay Cutler and the Bears in Madden NFL video games. Cutler was an elite video game quarterback. He had a rocket for an arm and enough mobility to make him dangerous on scrambles. Yours truly could go on for days about how putting up bonkers numbers with Cutler throwing deep to Devin Hester. But the reality is that I’d rather talk about Peter Woods as a possible Bears fit in the upcoming NFL Draft.
NFL Draft prospect Peter Woods has fond memories of the Bears — is he a good fit?
Peter Woods is one of the 2026 NFL Draft’s most intriguing prospects. The Clemson standout is just one season removed from a breakout 2024 campaign. As a sophomore, Woods collected three sacks and 8.5 tackles-for-loss in 11 games for the Tigers. Unfortunately, his production fell off as a junior.
© Alex Martin/Greenville News / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesIn Woods’ final year of college eligibility before declaring for the NFL Draft, he had just two sacks and only 3.5 tackles-for-loss. That feels like a notable drop-off in production from a prospect who will be framed as a potential game-wrecker along the interior defensive line. With that being said, I’m not scared off by what happened in his final season on campus.
WHO DOES MEL KIPER JR. HAVE THE BEARS TAKING IN THE NFL DRAFT?
It is easy to see a player’s production dip from one year to the next and view it as a red flag. However, this feels like a good time to point out how the production dip that wide receiver Luther Burden III saw from 2023 (86 catches, 1,212 yards, 9 touchdowns) to 2024 (61 catches, 676 yards, 6 touchdowns) didn’t scare the Bears off from drafting the Mizzou product in Round 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. That leap of faith paid dividends for Chicago’s football team. And it makes me wonder if history could repeat itself with Peter Woods.
Woods is someone we will take a deeper dive into later in the pre-NFL Draft process, so I won’t dig in too much. Instead, I’ll leave with these thoughts. I hope you are ready to brace yourselves to see Chicago’s football team connected to a bunch of defensive line prospects — particularly ones who are being pegged as Round 1 or 2 fits. There figures to be a ton of jockeying for draft positioning that will go on between the NFL Scouting Combine workouts, upcoming Pro Days, and private workouts.

One last thing: The Bears are going to meet with a ton of prospects throughout the pre-draft process. one player meetings will be made public. But others won’t. Peter Woods will be one of the many prospects whose meeting with Chicago’s brass will be publicly known. I look forward to seeing who else is in their meeting plans. Stay tuned.
