Police activity leads to brief shelter-in-place order for parts of Lake in the Hills ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

A shelter in place was issued for parts of northwest suburban Lake in the Hills for nearly an hour Thursday morning due to “police activity.”

Just before 10 a.m. the Lake in the Hills Police Department told residents to avoid Washington Street and Clayton Marsh Drive between McKinley and Lincoln streets “until further notice.”

It urged anyone in that area to shelter in place.

The police activity is just off the heavily-trafficked Randall Road in the suburb and not far from the popular shopping strip extending from the Algonquin Commons mall.

Details surrounding the reason for the police activity were not released but updates were expected to follow.

The shelter in place was lifted just before 11 a.m., as the department said police activity “has safely concluded.”

“There is no longer a threat to public safety. Thank you for your cooperation in this law enforcement matter,” the department said.
