Las Vegas Raiders General Manager John Spytek threw the first salvo in the Maxx Crosby story that figures to capture the attention of fans around the NFL — including those of us in Chicago.
From NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, who shares that the Raiders GM says he expects his star pass rusher to be in Vegas in 2026:
The Maxx Crosby saga should be among the items to fill the rumor mill in Indy. Raiders GM John Spytek says he expected Maxx Crosby to be on the team this season, calling him “elite.” “We're in the business of having really good players on the team, and we need a lot more of them.”[image or embed]
— Ian Rapoport (@rapsheet.bsky.social) February 24, 2026 at 10:14 AMThere was previous reporting suggesting that Maxx Crosby had let it be known that he was “done” with the Raiders. If that is the case, then it sure as heck sounds like the team hasn’t gotten that memo. But even with the Vegas general manager sharing what can be deemed as optimism regarding the return of his star pass rusher, I do not think Crosby-related trade chatter is going away anytime soon.
Raiders GM says he expects Maxx Crosby to be back in 2026
Locally, I figure Chicago Bears fans will monitor this situation with great interest. The Bears’ needs along the defensive line cannot be overstated this offseason. Whether you want to focus on edge help or aid along the interior of the defensive line is irrelevant to me. Chicago has obvious needs in the trenches on defense that must be addressed this offseason. Trading for Maxx Crosby would be one whale of a way to fill a glaring void.
In case you missed it, Crosby hosting Bears quarterback Caleb Williams on his podcast last week made waves in Chicago and in NFL circles. The hour-long yap fest included a steady exchange of praise between Crosby and Williams, as well as conversations about life in the NFL and what it takes to be great. It was a fun, wide-ranging, and casual conversation. But let’s not get it twisted. The Iceman’s appearance on Crosby’s podcast also helped fuel more discussions about Chicago being a possible landing spot for the star pass-rusher. Again, this simply isn’t going away with a few words from the Las Vegas GM.

Rumors regarding Maxx Crosby’s future began kicking up during the week of Super Bowl LX when a league insider hinted that the five-time Pro Bowl edge defender’s time in Vegas was coming to an end soon. Since then, we have explored what a Crosby trade could look like and what teams could be involved in the sweepstakes, analyzed hypothetical proposals from league pundits and insiders who have a good lay of the land, and explained why conversations figured to spark up at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Frankly, I expect more such posts in the future — at least until Crosby goes on the record one way or another.
