Indiana Stadium Proposal Details, Top-50 Draft Prospects Update, Chicago’s OL Blueprint, and Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Day 36 of the Chicago Bears offseason. I’ve been really into black coffee for the last 7-10 days. It began when I ran out of milk. And while I’ve been to the grocery store twice in the last 10 days or so, I have forgotten to grab some milk each time. Maybe my coffee doesn’t need milk. Just a thought.

Details have begun emerging regarding the Indiana proposal to swipe the Bears from Illinois. And, as anyone with any sense could have predicted, it appears to be loaded with new taxes for residents of the Hoosier State:

State and local taxes involved in the Bears stadium plan in Hammond, IN:– local food and beverage taxes– local hotel tax– income taxes, including from athletes playing at the stadium– state sales and use tax– ticket admission tax– renegotiated IN toll lease for infra.

— Justin Laurence (@jus10chi) February 23, 2026 Crain’s Chicago Business has more on the new taxes that come with the Bears stadium plan. Meanwhile, Capitol Fax’s Rich Miller has a roundup of the worthwhile news on that front with a description of Indiana’s offer to build a Bears stadium being called “an absolute cornucopia of new taxes.” The more I browse the internet, read news covering the proposals, and talk to Bears fans on the matter, the more I feel like this Indiana gambit is rooted in Indiana trying to get one over on its neighbor across the border. It’s giving vibes that are akin to the “Two Bad Neighbors” episode of The Simpsons. Has anyone made the “Bears are in Indiana this week, but only to talk football” joke yet? Anywhoo, the football brass is in Indianapolis for the annual NFL Scouting Combine. Bears General Manager Ryan Poles and Head Coach Ben Johnson are scheduled to speak on Tuesday morning. I’ll do my best to turn around any worthwhile comments from Chicago’s GM and head coach when they become available.

The evolution of the Combine deserves the ESPN 30 For 30 treatment. This event, hosted at Lucas Oil Stadium in the heart of downtown Indy, is traditionally where top prospects get tested, work out, and meet with teams. But it is so much more than that now. It is also a place that often serves as an incubator for trade and free agency rumors. Hence, we expect some Maxx Crosby-related buzz to pop up throughout the week. Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Even though following free agency buzz and tracking trade rumors are always top of mind in the offseason, we cannot overlook the NFL Draft-eligible prospects whose talents will be showcased this week at the Combine. One thing I will be keeping tabs on throughout the week is the latest from NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah, who has an updated top-50 prospects list. I plan on digging into this list later to see where potential Bears fits are checking in on Jeremiah’s list.

It is taking some time to get used to seeing the Bears being offered up as an example of how to build something in a proper way. But I like it … A LOT:

How fast can you rebuild an OL? Well, the Bears and Patriots made massive progress in one offseason. That’s the challenge for teams like Raiders & Browns. Finding the right mix of FA , Draft & trade to fix a major problem.

— Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) February 23, 2026 On the one hand, I feel as if there will be folks who say, “If the Bears can do it, anyone can!” And I would 100 percent understand that sentiment. But on the other hand, so much of the offseason success last year came from being in the right place, at the right time, with the right coaches, and the right players becoming available. Don’t get it twisted. I’m not saying the Bears were lucky. If anything, the Bears made their own luck — and that is something other teams need to realize. Sometimes, you just have to force the issue and hope for the best.

Some game within the game stuff: NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport believes there is value in being the one who breaks news:

“I do see the value in it. Now I’m biased. It’s my job, but I do see the value in it because if you’re first, it gets more clicks. It gets credited more. It gives your outlet more visibility…that’s publicity. I think it helps you. It helps the company. Even if you’re just 30 seconds before, you’re probably the guy that gets credit. I do see the sort of PR value in that. And I would also say – for the fans – you want it as right as possible and as quickly as possible and so, you should want it out from your guy as soon as you can get it.”

For what it’s worth, I don’t think Rap Sheet is wrong. THere is value in being first because of the visibility it provides. But with that being said, there is a reason insiders like Rapoport, ESPN’s Adam Schefter, FOX’s Jay Glazer, and The Athletic’s Dianna Russini stand out above the rest. Those reporters live at the intersection of speed, accuracy, and information. Sprinkle in some entertainment, and you’ve got a dynamo on your hands.
