It would be tough to find a person around Greeley who hasn’t felt the impact of Arlo and Chris Richardson’s work in the community.
From their numerous contributions to the University of Northern Colorado — for academic and athletics alike — to their work revitalizing downtown to the numerous boards and committees on which they’ve served, the Richardsons have left an indelible mark on the city, shaping its businesses and touching the lives of its residents.
On Thursday, it was time for some of those businesses and people to give back, as the Greeley Area Chamber of Commerce awarded the couple with the Leann Anderson Community Care Award at the organization’s annual dinner.
“We’re proud to call Greeley our home and join with all of you to shoot for the moon to foster themes of work, innovation and service to grow a healthy business community,” Arlo Richardson said. “We’ve been blessed to work, play and raise our family in Greeley, and we proudly look forward to the future.”
Leann Anderson was a community leader who volunteered with many organizations. The award was created in 1998 after her unexpected death to honor those who exhibit talent, commitment and civic spirit similar to Anderson.
“They are truly an inspiration to others,” Greeley-Evans District 6 Superintendent and Thursday night master of ceremonies Deirdre Pilch said. “They make all of us want to step up and do more. … There’s no question that they have led and joined others in creating a new vision and new leadership in this community,”
The Richardsons’ work around Greeley stretches back decades — but some of their more high-profile contributions have come fairly recently.
The Richardsons donated the land and water rights — valued at $8.8 million at the time — for what is becoming Hope Springs, a Habitat for Humanity community slated to include 491 affordable housing units that broke ground in 2024. A few years ago, Arlo Richardson also donated $5 million to UNC — which has helped spur the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Arlo founded Mineral Resources in 1981 and the Richmark Company the next year, according to Bloomberg.
Chris has served on numerous boards in the area, including the Weld Community Foundation and United Way of Weld County. She was also instrumental in founding Leanna’s Closet — a now-defunct nonprofit that provided job-appropriate clothing for women in need who either worked or were planning to enter the workforce.
The two met while attending school at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah,
As much of an impact as the Richardsons have made in the community, their son Logan — who introduced his parents at Thursday’s ceremony — said they had an even bigger impact on himself and his three siblings.
“We’ve always had love structure and compassion,” Logan said. “In our home, we had high standards and a lot of grace. Tonight, we’re honoring them for what they’ve done in the community, but I’d just like to honor them for being a great mom and dad.”

Though Arlo and Chris were the ones being honored Thursday evening, Arlo ended by turning the praise back around on his friend the world lost nearly 30 years ago.
“We’re here to honor Leann, who was known for her warmth and kindness,” he said. “Every person she met was left with the impression that Leann was their very best friend. It’s actually true. Leann’s great gift was to lift the soul and spirit of those around her.”
Along with the Richardson’ being honored, Todd Schriener of Peake Wellness Center was named the Chamber’s Ambassador of the Year for his community involvement and support of the Chamber’s mission.
