PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Section Five hockey playoffs are set to begin this week, and Pittsford, as defending champions, are aiming for a repeat victory with the help of the Pollard brothers, David and Adam.
Born just six minutes apart, the brothers have different playing styles. Rory Foster, their coach, said, “I think Adam is definitely more of a hard-working, grittier kind of player… Whereas David is more of a finesse kind of guy. Silkier on the puck. You know, has a lot of points this year. He led the section in scoring.”
David Pollard has scored 49 points this season. “Think just like being a playmaker all around the ice, especially on the offensive side. Like scoring, scoring goals, and getting assists,” David said when asked what his biggest strength was.
Adam Pollard, who has scored 10 points in 20 games, emphasized the importance of hard work. “It’s more about hard work,” Adam said. When asked if he was the gritty one, he replied, “Yeah.”
The twins have played together their entire lives. Last year, Pittsford won the Section Five championship with both brothers on the same line. “First time, we like, won something together,” David said. “It was pretty awesome.”
Both David and Adam scored in the 4-1 victory over Portside. Foster said, “David’s used to getting a lot of those important points. Adam, maybe not so much, so it was a great reward for him to see that work pay off.”
As seniors, the Pollards aim to not only win another Section V championship but also return to the state championship. “Would be really cool to be able to go back-to-back and be able to win together,” Adam said. David added, “A step back and, like, take a look at it all and remember how great this was.”
The Pollards and the Pittsford Panthers will face McQuaid on Friday in the Section Five quarterfinals at the Tim Horton’s Iceplex in Brighton.
