ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We have a Yellow Alert up today for dense fog making for hazardous road conditions in the morning, and freezing rain doing so in spots later on. Visibility was down to 100 feet at one point along the lakeshore, and down to a tenth to a quarter of a mile elsewhere across the Rochester region. Fog should lift later this morning, but for the time being slow down on the roads as signs, turns, and other cars may be hard to see. Do not use your high beams.
Rain will transition to freezing rain close to the lake mainly west of Rochester late this morning/early this afternoon. Some of this may spread east of Rochester as well, but the west is the main concern. Freezing rain will taper off tonight. Amounts will range from a coating to a third of an inch. Roads will be slippery. South of the 104/Thruway corridor will be all rain.
Better weather tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures seasonably cold in the mid 30s. More wet weather arrives Friday with rain and a wintry mix at times. Behind that comes much colder air and lake flakes this weekend.
