Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams made an appearance on Maxx Crosby’s podcast, which will surely raise the antenna of football fans around town.
But before you get any ideas, Williams doesn’t spend any time on the episode publicly recruiting Crosby to join him on the Bears. Nor does Crosby make a public declaration requesting a trade. However, the two have a lengthy conversation about life in the NFL, the ups and downs, playing against each other, and more.
Some of my favorite quips:
Some love for Ben Johnson and his staff: “The control they had of the situation, the belief and confidence that they had in themselves, but also, they sacrificed to get this thing going. Ben got hired and then went to work immediately. And they were, I mean, hours getting after it and not seeing their families from the start. We’re not talking about the season where obviously they’re in there all day and night sleeping over in the facility and things like that. The sacrifice, the control, and the confidence in themselves when they’re up there installing plays or talking to us, you can feel the energy and the confidence. And when you got a good coach and a coach that has that much confidence in himself and his staff, it goes a long way for the players.” Joe Thuney, the G.O.A.T.? Caleb sounds off: “Can we throw a little nugget in here? Joe might be the greatest guard. He’s unreal. His résumé, plus who he’s gone against, and the games he’s been in. I love Joe. He’s the best.”MORE: Inside Caleb Williams’ Record-Setting 2025 and What’s Next in 2026
On learning on the fly while making the transition to the NFL: “I don’t think it matters whatever college it is, they’re not teaching you what’s being taught in the NFL or what you have to know in the NFL to be able to play and play well. That’s what my first year was. Obviously, I know how to play ball. I’ve played in some big games, so some of that would come out. But there are certain things throughout the game, like you don’t need to go take this 16-yard out ball if it’s challenging. Just check it down to the flat guy and get 4-5 yards and keep us going. It’s a whole thing. It’s a learning curve that comes with it.” Maxx Crosby pressures Bears quarterback Caleb Williams at Allegiant Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. On what his offseason break looks like: “I give myself two months total in the offseason to be able to just chill and relax. I’ll do, just because it’s hard to fully get away, so I’ll do things like yoga, I’ll go do small things, play other sports to stay active, stay moving. But other than that, I take probably two weeks of unhealthy eating where I just eat whatever I want. I do whatever. I take that little bit of time, but 10 months out of the year I’m pretty regimented.” Caleb Williams looks ahead to 2026: “I’m actually itching to get back, to be honest. I’m fighting myself right now because I do know that rest and getting away is extremely important. So I’m fighting the urge right now. Fire’s burning. I’m ready. I’m excited to get back, especially after the work, seeing the work, feeling the work, going through it, going through the tough of last year, but also going through the tough of this year with a new coach and a tough coach and having to learn so much. And then the benefits of going out there and being able to win games and feeling confident and the guys believing. Winning is one of the best feelings in the world. Going back into that locker room and things like that after those interviews or shaking hands and partying with your boys in the locker room is unbeatable.”There was a lot more that the two discussed, so I encourage you to take some time to give it a full listen.
