Caleb Williams taking a huge jump in the NFL’s quarterback power rankings is something you absolutely love seeing this time of year.
Now that the dust has settled on the 2025 NFL season, NFL Media’s Nick Shook ranked all 63 quarterbacks who started at least one game last year based on how they played during the regular season *AND* playoffs. Shook’s list of quarterbacks who made at least one (1) start is a doozy and features seven different tiers. However, one name stands out (to me) above the rest — and it is Caleb Williams.
Because not only did the Chicago Bears’ starter check in among the top-10 highest-ranked quarterbacks, but he also ranked the highest among the NFC North’s signal-callers. That is quite impressive for so many reasons.
This is what Shook had to say about Chicago’s QB1:
Caleb Williams steadily improved throughout his first season under Ben Johnson and produced some incredible heroics in the postseason, powering an unbelievable comeback over the Packers on Wild Card Weekend and nearly doing the same against the Rams in the Divisional Round. Perhaps I’m a sucker for recency and hyperbole, but by the end of this season, Williams is among the quarterbacks I think of first when I ask the question: Who defined the 2025 season?
Because you might care, here are some other notable quarterback rankings: Matthew Stafford (1st), Drake Maye (4th), Jared Goff (9th), Daniel Jones (12th), Patrick Mahomes (13th), Jordan Love (14th), Aaron Rodgers (16th), Bo Nix (18th), C.J. Stroud (20th), J.J. McCarthy (33rd), Tyler Huntley (42nd), Shedeur Sanders (44th), Justin Fields (51st), Max Brosmer (63rd).

Going from being ranked No. 28 to No. 8 in one season is a remarkable jump. There is so much to discuss about Williams and his future, but we should stop and acknowledge (and appreciate) his year-to-year growth now that we are fully entrenched in the offseason.
Caleb Williams checks in as a top-10 quarterback
There is no denying Caleb Williams’ awesomeness in 2025. He threw for 3,942 yards and tossed 27 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. Williams added 388 rushing yards, three ground scores, and his first-ever touchdown reception. On top of that, he engineered six fourth-quarter comebacks in the regular season and one more in the playoffs. But perhaps the most important development in Williams’ game is that he took only 24 sacks this past season. After taking a league-high 68 (leading to a loss of 466 yards), getting sacked 24 times and losing just 165 yards as your sack percentage dropped from 10.79 percent to 4.05 percent is nothing short of remarkable.
CHICAGO BEARS 2025 EXIT INTERVIEWS: Quarterback Caleb Williams
Sure, his completion rate (58.1 percent) leaves something to be desired. He also threw more interceptions (5) than touchdowns (4) in the playoffs. But QB1 has an offseason to-do list, which includes putting work into improving his game for when games kick off in 2026. After witnessing the progress he made this past season, I look forward to seeing what Caleb Williams looks like after an offseason of working on his game.
Seeing Caleb Williams get a top-10 ranking in this year’s quarterback index helps drive home the reminder that Chicago isn’t in a place where it needs to spend time, money, and energy worrying about the quarterback position this offseason. All things considered, this is a refreshing place to be after spending so many offseasons obsessing over what the Bears would, could, and should do at the most important position in the game. Williams still has work to do in order to take his game to another level. But after seeing the leap he made from 2024 to 2025, it feels like anything is possible.
