ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Did you enjoy our brief warm up? We made it above freezing for the first time in 18 days on Tuesday! But that warm up is short-lived. We won’t be returning to the frigid weather, but it will be turning a bit colder with some lake effect snow returning Wednesday. A cold front arrives early Tuesday night, dropping us into the upper 20s with some light flurries and snow showers in the morning. Another stronger cold front arrives during the afternoon. This will shift our wind out of the northwest, and bring in another push of colder air. Winds on Wednesday will gust close to 30mph at times. That wind shift will bring a band of lake effect snow into the area Wednesday afternoon and evening. We will likely see some snow during the evening commute, with some slick roads, but accumulations should remain under an inch.
We’ll see some lake effect snow showers continuing Wednesday night, before tapering Thursday morning. Total accumulations should range from an inch or two in most spots, up to 3-4″ total in parts of Wayne County and the hilltops of the Finger Lakes from Wednesday into Thursday morning. Temperatures on Thursday will hold in the lower half of the 20s. So, we’re not falling back into the single digits and teens, but it will be another chilly day Thursday.
Quiet weather returns Friday and into the weekend. The one thing we’ll be watching is the potential for a low developing to our south, then strengthening along the coast Sunday into Monday. At this point, it appears like it’ll be too far south to impact us, but it is still 5 days away. So that is something we’ll monitor over the next few days for any changes in the track.
