Day 21 of the Chicago Bears offseason. The Super Bowl is over. A new champion has been crowned. And I have so much leftover chili.
Super Bowl LXI is 370 days away, which gives us plenty of time to rewatch this Common-narrated video the Bears posted after the conclusion of Sunday night’s Super Bowl shenanigans:Back to work. pic.twitter.com/lysijAreQd
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) February 9, 2026 I love that the video above serves as a look back at the season that was in 2025 while also reminding us that everyone is back at 0-0 — which is pretty consistent with the messaging Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson had during his end-of-year press conference back in January. Johnson was adamant that his team was starting from the bottom again, which is quite the Jedi mind trick. I hope it is the kind of thing that keeps these guys hungry throughout the offseason and ready to attack the day when training camp opens in the summertime. Even though the Bears’ season ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round, it was still easy to feel good about quarterback Caleb Williams moving forward. I’m not sure New England Patriots fans will feel that way about Drake Maye after his showing in the Super Bowl:Drake Maye 6th lowest EPA per dropback in a Super Bowl since 2000. — Steven Ruiz (@theStevenRuiz) February 9, 2026 For what it’s worth, I think Drake Maye will be fine. The guy was one first-place vote away from earning MVP honors as a second-year starting quarterback. His overall numbers are what you’d want them to be for a guy entering Year 3 as a starter. It’s just that his performance in what was the biggest game of the year left so much to be desired. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back from that one. One thing that doesn’t escape my mind is that there are so many quarterbacks who we think will get back to the big game after a loss, but never do. Joe Burrow hasn’t been back. The same can be said about guys like Brock Purdy and Jared Goff. Matt Ryan and Cam Newton were MVP winners in their day. Each made one Super Bowl, but never made it back. Dan Marino made it to the Super Bowl as a rookie with the Miami Dolphins, spent most of his career being coached by the legendary Don Shula, and had a record-setting Hall of Fame career. And yet, he never made it back. There is a real chance that Maye never makes another Super Bowl, which is sobering to think about.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky

It won’t make Drake Maye feel any better about his showing, but his performance wasn’t even the most bothersome thing about the Super Bowl. The commercials, which used to be as highly anticipated as the game itself, were a drag. Where is the artistry? The creativity? What happened to ads featuring tangible things I’d want to buy? Or TV spots for stores I’d actually want to spend my money at after my next paycheck comes in? What happened to advertisers selling things I’d actually want? What happened to the game I loved?THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
A fun fact I know the haters will love: The New England Patriots suffering their sixth Super Bowl loss means they have lost more in The Big Game than any other NFL franchise. My hope is that your major takeaway from the Super Bowl halftime show is that you have a new appreciation for a different culture. When I was younger, Super Bowl halftime shows introduced me to new music I wouldn’t have otherwise been put onto by my surroundings. Some of it I liked, some of it … not so much. But you can’t know if you like something or not if you’re not exposed to it and give it a chance. Bad Bunny did right by Puerto Ricans and the Latin American community. I hope his messages about love and unity came across loud and clear. Bad Bunny performs at halftime in Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images I’m calling my shot now: Super Bowl LXI’s halftime performer will be Sabrina Carpenter. I think the league will want to lean into the game being played on Valentine’s Day with hopes that it can generate some crossover appeal from people who wouldn’t otherwise watch the game. Between the SNL stints, the Muppets show, a memorable Super Bowl ad that didn’t make you audibly groan, and back-to-back banger pop albums, I think she checks all the boxes the NFL would want out of a halftime performer. At a minimum, this exposure and these experiences are grooming her for something huge. And if not Sabrina, then I can see the league going back on the international path by trying to tap into the K-pop sensation with an act like BTS or Stray Kids. Sam Darnold being the first starting quarterback to win a championship from his draft class is mind-blowing when you consider that 2018 group featured two future MVPs (Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen) and a No. 1 overall pick (Baker Mayfield) who was the PFWA Offensive Rookie of the Year and is a two-time Pro Bowler. Which is a bigger accomplishment: Sam Darnold winning a Super Bowl while on a loaded Seahawks roster or Baker Mayfield winning a road playoff game with the Cleveland Browns against the arch-rival Pittsburgh Steelers? With all due respect to Darnold, winning a playoff game while quarterbacking the Browns is one of the toughest challenges in all of sports. There is probably a bigger post to be written about Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and his tale of perseverance. That guy went from stud college quarterback to Super Bowl champion … but only after flaming out after three seasons with the New York Jets, toiling with a miserable Carolina Panthers squad for two seasons, rebuilding his stock with the San Francisco 49ers, and making the most of his opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings on a “prove it” deal before flourishing in Seattle. Darnold turns 29 in June. Given how long quarterbacks can play at a high level, Darnold has an opportunity to write a new compelling arc as he finishes off his late-20s and goes into his 30s. If you feel bad about your favorite team not making the Super Bowl, it might make you feel better knowing the Vikings might have closed their own window of contention by choosing JJ McCarthy over Sam Darnold. Rebilas-Imagn Images Seattle Seahawks executive John Schneider might have punched his Hall of Fame ticket last night. Building two Super Bowl champions with two distinct styles in two different eras is impressive. Schneider was once a scout and executive for the Packers. I’m sure glad he isn’t there any more! Velus Jones Jr. is a Super Bowl champion in the same way Ihmir Smith-Marsette is a Super Bowl champion. If you know, you know. And if you don’t, then it is of no consequence. Random ex-Bears winning rings doesn’t bug me the way it might bother others.MORE SUPER BOWL-CALIBER COVERAGE FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
