NBC Chicago takes its love for the Olympics very seriously.
So much so, we decided to create an an entire Olympic-themed news desk out of ice ahead of the Opening Ceremony Friday — and share it with you.
A crew from Nate’s Ice is set to carve a custom desk out of ice live on the NBC Chicago morning show starting at 6 a.m. CT. The crew will be joined by the Horner Park Jazz Band to play some Olympic fanfare and family and friends of Chicago-area Olympic speedskaters Ethan Cepuran and Emery Lehman will be on hand to cheer them on.
The carving will be live streamed in the player above as it continues throughout the day Friday, with the family of Olympic hockey star Kendall Coyne Schofield stopping by during our 4 p.m. newscast.
The main carving will be done by Nate Johnson, with assistance from Coady Raab and Ursula Martens.
Members of the public are encouraged to come by and see the progress as it happens. Bonus points for those who wear their red, white and blue to cheer on Team USA.
The desk is expected to remain on display through the weekend and can be used for photo opportunities.
