Tired of the cold? Chicago’s long streak of frigid weather is expected to come to an end later this week, the NBC 5 Storm Team says.
“You’ll feel the change starting tomorrow,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said, with temperatures still expected to remain in the 20s Wednesday.
Temperatures overnight will fall into the teens, but are expected to highs in the low 30s by Thursday.
The warmer weather also comes with chances for light snow, with a series of clipper systems that could snarl both the Thursday and Friday morning commutes.
The first system was expected to bring widespread snow to the Chicago area early Thursday through at least 1 p.m., Roman said.
“Another one comes down early Friday, around 7 a.m.,” Roman added. “When all is said and done, 1-2 inches, especially in areas close to the lakefront.”
Following those systems, temperatures are expected to drop back down slightly into the 20s over the weekend. By next week, temperatures will be in the upper 30s to low 40s, Roman said.
According to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, temperatures in the Chicago area and the midwest are expected to be above average for this time of year. That means highs are expected to remain in the upper 30s to low 40s, Roman said.
