An Oklahoma teen has been arrested in connection with the death of his adoptive mother.
On Friday, January 30, Jordan Cole Weems, 16, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of desecration of a human corpse and one count of unauthorized removal of a dead body after allegedly admitting to killing his mother, Spring Weems, 49, with a “hammer” that he found in their garage and then putting her body in a garbage can.
Police were first alerted to the situation when the father of one of Spring’s biological kids — referred to as Levi or AW — reported that she had been missing to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, January 27. (He and Spring had divorced some years ago, but continued to share custody of their minor children.) On Wednesday, January 28, authorities discovered her body in a trash bin that had been rolled to the curb in front of the home. Jordan was later taken into custody.

While investigating the case, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents spoke with one of Spring’s adopted sons, who said he and Jordan had recently gotten into trouble for sneaking out at night and “running from law enforcement,” the affidavit read, per ABC affiliate KOCO News 5. The two boys had to write apology letters for their behavior and Jordan allegedly had his regular clothing and bedding taken away. Instead, he was reportedly made to wear an orange jumpsuit so he could learn “what life as a prisoner might be like if he did not start behaving.” He also ate “prison foods,” such as ham and beans or chicken and beans, according to the report.
Following the incident, Jordan allegedly made several threats to “kill their mother.”
After Spring went missing, the father of one of her biological children became concerned and decided to talk with one of the adopted kids — who has not been named publicly — because he was “acting like he knew something and was scared.” That was when the boy allegedly told him Jordan had “killed Spring with a hammer and she was in a trash can at the street.”
Since his arrest, the Logan County District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion requesting Jordan be denied bond. Lawyers argued Spring’s death was “not a crime of passion or an instantaneous decision. Rather, the Defendant [threatened] to kill his mother leading up to the crime.”

“He planned the killing by retrieving a hammer and laying in wait to surprise his mother in the middle of the night,” DA officials continued in the court documents, referring to the reports that Jordan had allegedly stood in a hallway and waited for Spring to come out of the kitchen. “When his mother came upon him unsuspecting, he attacked her viciously and brutally.”
While Jordan has been charged as an adult, the DA officials suggested he would be “better cared for and served” if he was housed in a juvenile detention facility.
The 16-year-old’s next court hearing is scheduled for February 24.
