Happy Sunday, Bulls fans!
We witnessed two of the rarest things in the NBA last night: a Bulls win and a trade. Both on the same night?
Guys, we’re getting spoiled.
Chick-fil-A might be closed on Sundays, but there are no off days when it comes to talking Chicago hoops. Tonight, the Bulls–Heat trilogy reaches its final chapter. These two teams also faced off last night, making this the second game of a same-teams, same-city back-to-back.
There’s a lot to break down about the players who were on the court, and a whole lot more to say about the ones who weren’t, and maybe won’t be on this roster by this time next week.

The phones aren’t dry at the league office, we’ve got a trade to announce. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings struck a deal centered around Dennis Schröder, Keon Ellis, and De’Andre Hunter. It’s only the second trade of the regular season, and somehow, the Chicago Bulls are involved, playing the third-team facilitator role. Chicago walks away with two second-round picks and Dario Šarić, and waived Jevon Carter to make the math work. This is objectively a great trade for Chicago. Carter was on an expiring contract, so there’s no penalty in waiving him. Šarić is also expiring, meaning no bad money on the books long-term, and the Bulls essentially picked up two second-rounders for free. That’s a solid start. The wild part? Jevon Carter literally played a couple of hours before the trade was announced. I guess the Bulls gifted him a rare 20-minute run as a farewell present from the Windy City. I know one man who will really miss Carter, that is Matas. He even posted a picture of the two of them on his Instagram as soon as the trade was announced. Definitely a great vet to have on the roster.Matas Buzelis on IG in light of Bulls waiving Jevon Carter. Very influential vet for him. “He’s not gonna sugarcoat anything,” Buzelis told me earlier this year. “He’s just a real dude. He doesn’t bullshit you. … he’s one of the realest.” pic.twitter.com/LBAi7SQlX0
— Joel Lorenzi (@JoelXLorenzi) February 1, 2026 With this move, Chicago is now down to just six expiring contracts. And this feels like one of those trades, the kind that tips the first domino and gets the rest wobbling. The Bulls are waiving guard Jevon Carter to create space for Saric, sources said. — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 1, 2026 Also, last night was game night. The Bulls were severely depleted. They had seven names on the injury report, six of them regular rotation players. That left Chicago with zero depth at guard or center, and a whole lot of wings like a Super Bowl watch party. The result was one of the stranger-looking starting fives we’ve seen this season, with 6’6” Patrick Williams opening the game at center as the biggest eye-catcher.Ayo-Kev-Okoro-Matas-Pat get us started tonight in Miami.Stream ➡️ t.co/dLgvAjeEdl pic.twitter.com/DGiOiD2GLN
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 1, 2026 Now, this lineup isn’t winning many games—or playoff series—but it did try something Chicago has mostly avoided: true small-ball. Against a Miami team with one of the better big-man rotations in the NBA, the Bulls held their own for at least three quarters and forced the Heat to play Chicago’s style—run, gun, and get out in transition. Nearly a third of their points came off the fast break, more than double their season average. I don’t hate the idea, honestly. And I’m curious whether Billy Donovan ever pulls it back out of the bag once Jalen Smith and Nikola Vučević are healthy again.Pat's block starts the fastbreak!@CHSN__ | #SeeRed pic.twitter.com/Ic9hn6ddvN
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 1, 2026 One thing we do need to talk about is Ayo Dosunmu. Ayo is having a great year on both ends of the floor. On a guard-heavy team, his numbers can get a little watered down, but give him the opportunity, and this dude can flat-out hoop. Over these two games against Miami, he’s been a constant threat, and last night he was the punchline. A season-high twenty-nine points. Nine assists. Eight rebounds. Basically a near 30-point triple-double, with two steals thrown in just to sweeten the pot. I genuinely see a future Bulls backcourt with Ayo and Giddey, and honestly, it makes me giddy. I’ve been on the “keep him and re-sign him” train for a while now, and I’m hoping the front office sees it the same way. And if he does get traded, it better be for something special, because that’s exactly what Chicago has in Dosunmu right now.Dos was COOKING in Miami ? @AyoDos_11 pic.twitter.com/NYWUmkungo
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 1, 2026 The injuries last night also served a bigger purpose for the Bulls: opportunity. And Chicago was rewarded with the long-awaited, highly anticipated Yuki Kawamura debut. Say what you want, but when he started making plays, Miami sounded louder than the United Center for an away team. He scored his first points for the franchise, actually, his first six, along with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He was on the floor for the final minutes of a clutch game and even pulled down a huge defensive rebound as one of the smallest guys out there. Watch out, MJ. Yuki’s coming for those records.Yuki's first Bulls bucket is a triple! ?@KawamuraYuki | @CHSN__ pic.twitter.com/L0Q6BsYMEB
