Bulls Trading for Second-Round Picks, Dario Saric; Waiving Jevon Carter in 3-Team Deal ...Middle East

The Chicago Bulls are… making a smart trade for draft assets? What is happening? Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Chicago will absorb the expiring contract of center Dario Saric while adding a pair of second-round picks, as part of a three-team exchange headlined by the Cleveland Cavaliers offloading forward De’Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for wing Keon Ellis and the contract of veteran point guard Dennis Schroder.

One of the picks being offloaded is the least favorable 2029 second-rounder between the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks.

Chicago Says Hello to Dario Saric, Goodbye to Jevon Carter

The Bulls will waive native Chicagoan Jevon Carter, who wrapped up his final game for his hometown team playing major minutes in a surprise 125-118 win against the Miami Heat on Saturday night. Across 20 minutes, Carter finished with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field (3-of-8 from deep), five rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal. Assuming he clears waivers, he’ll be free to sign anywhere.

The 6-footer had been a major disappointment since inking a three-year deal with Chicago during the 2023 offseason. He fell out of Billy Donovan’s rotation entirely in 2024-25. Across just 23 healthy games with Chicago this year, he averaged a scant 5.4 points on .398/.410/1.000 shooting splits, 1.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.6 steals in 11.1 mop-up minutes per.

Scotto notes that Sacramento believes Hunter can be a major forward building block for the future, along with recent lottery pick Keegan Murray. Ditching Saric will give younger big man Nique Clifford more of a shot at cracking the Kings’ doomed rotation. The Kings will now elevate two-way signing Dylan Cardwell to a standard roster role.

The only good team in this three-club deal is Cleveland. So what do the Cavaliers get out of this? Ellis has some promising upside, although he was buried on a bad Kings team — which is never what you want to hear. Schroder is a solid point-of-attack defender, and could in theory replace ex-Bull Lonzo Ball in the Cavs’ bench rotation.
