Indiana hosted Louisville for a dual meet on Friday and earned wins on both sides. The #3 Indiana men earned the 216-84 win over #11 ranked Louisville. The women’s meet was much closer with #5 Indiana earning the 161-138 win over #7 Louisville.

Women’s Recap

Highlighting the women’s side was the 400 free relay that closed the meet. Indiana’s ‘A’ team of Liberty Clark, Grace Hoeper, Alex Shackell, and Kristina Paegle swam to a final time of a 3:08.07 to earn the win. Clark led the group with a 46.38 lead off split. Indiana’s relay marks the #3 time in the NCAA this season, only behind Stanford (3:07.59) and Virginia (3:07.62).

Louisville’s ‘A’ relay of Caroline Larsen, Julia Dennis, Julie Mishler, and Ella Welch touched 2nd in a 3:09.94. Both of the team’s ‘B’ relays were DQed, resulting in Indiana’s ‘C’ relay finishing 3rd.

In addition to her lead off split, Clark swam to two individual wins as well for the Hoosiers. She first won the 200 free in a 1:41.35 before winning the 100 free in a 46.36. Her 100 free marked a lifetime best as her old best was a 46.83 from midseason.

Alex Shackell also earned two individual wins for Indiana as she won the 200 fly in a 1:54.41 and the 100 fly in a 51.08. Shackell holds the Indiana school record in the 200 fly after posting a 1:52.98 in her debut for the team earlier this month.

Also earning a stroke sweep for the Hoosiers was Miranda Grana as she won the 100 back in a 50.91 and the 200 back in a 1:50.94. Grana holds the school record in the 100 fly and was 2nd behind Shackell today in a 51.66.

Leading the way for Louisville was Anastasia Gorbenko who swam to three indivdual wins. Gorbenko joined the team this spring and already set school records in the 100 breast and 200 IM last week at Texas. This week, she swam to a 57.81 in the 100 breast, a 2:06.75 in the 200 breast, and a 4:06.52 in the 400 IM.

In addition to her individual wins, Gorbenko helped the team’s 200 medley relay to a win. The team of Mishler, Gorbenko, Welch, and Dennis touched in a 1:33.59, only a tenth off their time from last week against Texas that sits at #4 in the NCAA this season. Dennis notably won the 50 free as well in a 21.46, just off her season best 21.21 that sits at #3 in the NCAA this season.

Men’s Recap

Zalan Sarkany went three for three on the day for the Indiana men as he won the 1000 free in a 8:40.40, the 500 free in a 4:16.79, and the 400 IM in a 3:43.28. His 1000 free was just off his season best of a 8:39.94 that sits at #2 in the NCAA this season only behind Florida’s Ahmed Jaouadi.

Mikkel Lee won both the 50 and 100 freestyles, touching in a 19.03 in the 50 free and a 42.35 in the 100 free. His 50 free time was a lifetime best by 0.04 seconds as his previous best was a 19.07 that he swam for 10th at the 2025 Big Ten Championships last February.

In addition to his individual contributions, Lee also helped the team to two relay wins. The 200 medley relay of Miroslav Knedla, Travis Gulledge, Owen McDonald, and Lee touched in a 1:22.63 for the win. McDonald, Lee, Knedla, and Dylan Smiley combined for a 2:49.16 in the win in the 400 free relay.

Knedla battled it out with McDonald in the 100 back as Knedla earned the win in a 44.78, marking a new best time as his previous best was a 45.02 from 2025 Big Tens. McDonald touched 2nd in a 45.58. Knedla also won the 200 back in a 1:40.88.

Raekwon Noel swept the butterfly events for Indiana as he won the 100 fly in a 45.78 and the 200 fly in a 1:41.14. His 200 fly time was a best time by 1.21 seconds, dropping from his previous best of a 1:42.35 that he swam at the 2025 Big Ten Championships during prelims as an exhibition swimmer.

The Louisville men were led by Guy Brooks who finished 2nd in the 200 free in a 1:34.12, touching behind Indiana’s Aaron Shackell (1:33.97). Brooks also helped Louisville’s 400 free relay of Nikita Sheremet, Brooks, Aiden Musso, and Rian Graham to a 2nd place finish in a 2:50.12. Brooks had the fastest split with a 41.99.

Sheremet had another three 2nd place finishes, including both the 50 free (19.40) and 100 free (42.63). He also swam on the team’s 200 medley relay that finished 2nd.
