PROVO, Utah – BYU swim and dive earned victories over Air Force and CMU at the conclusion of this weekend’s Double Dual.
“Being at home this weekend gave the team a tremendous emotional boost,” head coach Tamber McAllister said. “Our athletes took full advantage of not having to travel — they showed up focused, energized, and ready to race. They competed with grit from start to finish, and breaking multiple pool records was a great reflection of the work they’ve been putting in all season.”

SwimmingThe final day of the Double Dual meet began with the 400 medley relay, where the A team earned first with a time of 3:40.23, a Richard Building Pool record. The B team would follow in fourth, touching the wall at 3:46.68.
Lucy Warnick and Brinley Knoll got things started in the individual events, earning first and second in the 200 individual medley. Warnick finished at 2:03.03 and Knoll hit the wall at 2:04.50.
In the 50 free, BYU took the first four spots, with Tatum Cooley coming in first at 22.99. Taylor Benett followed in second and earned a time of 23.02, the seventh-fastest in BYU history. Sophie Scoville (23.26) and Lily Flint (23.35) then followed in third and fourth.
Emma Marusakova led the Cougars in the 200 backstroke, taking first at 2:00.62. Kara Martinson and Katya Hulse also competed, earning fifth and sixth. Next up was the 1,650 freestyle, where Melissa Turela took third at 17:19.91 and Cher Patrick took sixth.
Warnick took second in the 100 breast, clocking a time of 1:02.33, and Victoria Schreiber finished first in the 200 freestyle at 1:48.66, setting a new Richard Building Pool record. Haylee Tiffany followed Schreiber in second at 1:48.78.
The 200 butterfly wrapped things up for individual events, with Lucy Marek taking second at 2:04.17.
The concluding event of the meet was the 200 freestyle relay, where Bennett, Scoville, Flint and Cooley of the A team took first at 1:30.79, the fastest performance in BYU history. The B team followed in second, finishing at 1:33.63.
DivingFreshman Brooklyn Goeckeritz led things for BYU on the diving board, scoring 240.90 and earning fifth in the 1-meter. Sophia DeBergh took seventh and finished with an overall score of 233.00. Betty Martin followed in ninth at 227.30 and Aubryn Ordyna would take 13th at 216.05.
Up NextBYU dive travels this week to Colorado to take on Air Force and other competition in the Air Force Invite. Swim will enjoy the weekend off before returning to the Richards Building Pool for the second and final home meet of the season against Utah, with competition beginning on Friday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. MST.

Darwin Anderson followed the event with a first-place finish in the 1650 freestyle at 15:41.41.
Kleinman then took first in the 50 freestyle, clocking a time of 19.76, the sole sub-20 time of the event. Payton Plumb also competed, earning third place at 20.22. In the 200 backstroke, Jack Burke would secure a fourth-place finish at 1:48.85, adding to the Cougars’ lead.
Up next was the 100 breaststroke, where junior Evan VanderSluis took first with a time of 53.91. Will Bonnett (54.45) and Tyler Edlefsen (54.77) followed, earning third and fourth.
Tanner Nelson earned a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle, hitting the wall at 1:36.40, just shy of the current pool record, which he holds. Ethan Purcell was the next Cougar up in the event, taking sixth at 1:41.14.
Freshman Mattia Reina earned a second-place finish in the final individual event of the meet, touching the wall at 1:50.13 in the 200 butterfly. Jackson Dubreuil and Chas Jones competed in the event as well, taking eighth and ninth.
The 200 freestyle relay concluded the meet, where the A team — composed of Kleinman, Nelson, Joshua Reed and Plumb — took first at 1:19.42, breaking another Richard Building Pool record. Andrew Eliason, Lucca Ferreira, Bonnet and Jacob Ballard of the B team would take third in the event, finishing at 1:20.77.
DivingMartí Llop finished first in the 3-meter event, leading the Cougars for a second day. He earned a score of 358.25, 43.40 points ahead of second place. Freshman Ashton Sparks took fifth with a score of 292.95, and Elijah Baker earned his highest placement of the season, scoring 285.45 in sixth place.

PROVO, Utah., – The Falcon women split their double dual meet, defeating Colorado Mesa 207.50-145.50, but falling to BYU 207-146 on Saturday morning at the Richards Building Pool. The day was highlighted by top finishes on the board and in the pool.
“The team had a good weekend and BYU was on fire at their home opener, but our team rose to the challenge and swam well,” mentioned head coach Colleen Murphy.
The Air Force divers swept the top four with freshman Lulu Semakula leading the pack with her third 1-meter win of the season at 258.75. Chloe Perkins (254.20), Cayla Jaffe (253.50), and Lexi Gregory (253.25) went for second third and fourth, while Kacey Hu (237.45) placed fifth.
Head diving coach Kyle Van Valkenburg expressed, “The women were dominant in their performances and I was pleased with their event sweeps. They cam into the weekend eager to compete and they showed good consistency throughout the meet.”
The program’s first top finish on the swimming side was from Naomi Furman who powered to gold in the 100 breast with a winning time of 1:02.00. Team captain Maeve Linscott added a fifth-place showing, touching in at 1:03.77.
Murphy stated, “We have been working extremely hard in the pool and we are swimming fast tired. This team is special and we are going to have lifetime bests in-season; we have leveled up this semester.”
Jena Nowoswiat closed the individual events in strong fashion, surging to first in the 200 fly at 2:03.82, while Natalie Doig earned bronze in the same race with a time of 2:04.94.
Air Force continued to rack up podium finishes in the relays, as the 400 medley relay squad combined for a third-place effort at 3:45.38.
Elizabeth Sistrunk led the Falcons in the 200 back with a runner-up finish at 2:00.80, followed closely by Addy Forbes in fourth (2:01.91).
Distance swimmer Abby Miller claimed second in the 1650 free at 17:16.84. Katie Andrist followed with a fourth-place performance, clocking a 17:20.96.
The Falcons filled the podium in the 200 IM as Sadie Hartig secured bronze at 2:05.58, while Hanani Dona (2:06.73) and Furman (2:07.23) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore Lily Larson added another top-three finish for Air Force, taking third in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.84, while Hartig picked up her second top-five finish of the day in fifth at 1:51.52.
In the sprint events, Ryan Mills posted Air Force’s fastest 50 free of the meet, finishing fifth with a time of 23.73.
“We are looking forward to the meet next weekend and focusing on racing the sprints,” explained Murphy while Van Valkenburg said, “We look to improve going into our invitational next week where we will face the same teams and tough competition.”
The Falcons now turn their attention home, set to host the Air Force Diving Invitational from Thursday, Jan. 29 through Saturday, Jan. 31, while the swimming squad will compete in the Colorado Sprint Championship on Jan. 31 and celebrate senior day.
PROVO, Utah., – Men’s swim and dive dropped a pair of duals to Colorado Mesa (183-170) and BYU (231-122) on Saturday morning at the Richards Building Pool.
“Although we came up a little short this weekend as a team, I am very proud of the guys,” expressed head coach Rob Clayton. “They continue to make changes, grow and improve and we swam very well this weekend.”
For a one-two finish in the 200 IM, James Winterfield captured first with a time of 1:48.45, while Matthew Doty followed close behind in second at 1:49.13.
Air Force found success on the diving side as well, as Brady Nichol secured silver on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 314.85. Freshman Lucas Gerten added a podium finish of his own, placing third with a 313.40.
Head diving coach Kyle Van Valkenburg stated, “The men faced some extremely tough competition and performed well. The divers came into the weekend eager to compete and they showed good consistency. Nichol put out two outstanding performances to lead the team.”
Distance swimmers Evan Witte and Tucker Rice found their momentum in the 1650 free, finishing second and third with respective times of 15:59.07 and 16:12.55.
The Falcons went back-to-back in the 200 back, with Louie Body claiming second at 1:47.81 and Garrett Kennedy taking third at 1:48.80.
Reigning MPSF Male Athlete of the Week Tanner Wilson continued his standout season, earning a runner-up finish in the 100 breast at 54.44. Senior Bridon Rosales rounded out the top five with a time of 55.07.
The Air Force “A” squad turned in a podium performance in the 400 medley relay, placing third with a combined time of 3:17.04.
Joe Christ represented the Falcons in the top five of the 200 free, locking in third place at 1:38.11.
The Falcons packed the 200 fly standings, with Jonas Dark leading the trio in third at 1:51.01, Danny Detjen (1:51.16), close behind in fourth, and Dylan Ferguson rounding out the top five at 1:51.78.
In the sprint events, Jordan Falls posted Air Force’s fastest 50 free, finishing fifth with a time of 20.35.
Clayton said, “We took a significant step forward towards our goal of championship swimming at the MPSF Championships in late February. Shoutout to Winterfield and Doty who finished top two in the 200 IM.”
The Falcons now return home to host the Air Force Diving Invitational from Thursday, Jan. 29 through Saturday, Jan. 31, while the swimming team will also compete in the Colorado Sprint Championship on Jan. 31.

PROVO, Utah— Micah Moore and Luka Samsonov won events as the Colorado Mesa University men’s swimming and diving team proved to be the best in the Colorado as the Mavericks held off Air Force for a 183-170 win as part of a 2-day double dual here at BYU’s Richards Building Pool on Saturday.
The Mavericks have now defeated the Air Force, Denver and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Colorado School of Mines in duals this season while also getting past Mines and Adams State in invitationals earlier this season.
They have now defeated six NCAA Division I opponents this year.
CMU’s women, who have beat four Division I opponents in invitationals this year, also received an event win from Olivia Hansson in the 1,650-yard freestyle, her second of the weekend, but fell to Air Force, 207.5-146.5, and to the host BYU Cougars, 240-113.
CMU’s men also came up short against BYU, 224.5-128.5.
Moore claimed the 200-yard butterfly in 1:48.30 while Samsonov won the 200 back in 1:47.71. Samsonov also helped the Mavs’ take second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:13.11.
Elsewhere, Guillaume Guth took second in both the 50 (20.02) and 200 free (1:37.55) in between his part of the Mavs’ second place finishes in both the 400 medley and 200 free relays.
He anchored the 400 medley relay team with Samsonov, Aron Jonsson, Oskar Sawicki before opening up the 200 free relay with a 19.92-second split as Sawicki, Richard Schmiedefeld and Holden Convertino combined for a time of 1:19.98.
Ben Vester also turned in an improved NCAA Division II Championship “B” qualifying time of 1:50.29 (1:49.09-altitude-adjusted) to take third in the 200 individual medley.
In other events, Gavyn Tatge touched fifth in the 1,650 free in 16:17.84 while Jonsson finished sixth in the 100 breast with a time of 55.10.
Ryan Campbell led the Maverick divers taking fourth in the 3-meter event with 313.25 points over six dives.
Hansson, who had won the 500 free in the Friday evening session, dominated the 1650 on Saturday, posting a more than 10-second win in 17:05.29.
The Mavs also picked up a second place finish from Taylar Hooton, Antonia Leese, Kiara Borchardt and Ada Qunell in the 400 medley relay at the start of the season.
Later, Abby Uhl took third in the 200 back while Leese did the same in the 100 breast. Uhl touched in 2:01.70 while Leese finished in 1:03.22 with teammate Melina Giraudeau finishing just behind in an improved NCAA “B” cut time of 1:03.74 (1:03.64-converted) to move up a spot to sixth in CMU history.
The 200 free relay team of Qunell, Hooton, Borchardt and Reagan Horn also finished third with a time of 1:33.80.
The Mavs’ also picked up fourth place finishes from Qunell in the 200 free (1:51.20) and Tori Bartusiak in the 200 fly (2:05.45).
Horn also led the Mavs in the 50 free, taking sixth in 23.73 seconds after Giraudeau led the Mavs in the 200 IM with a sixth-place time of 2:07.25.
Jenna Hurley led the Maverick women’s divers, taking eight on the 1-meter board with 232.20 points.
The Maverick divers will be in action again next week, competing in Northern Arizona’s Lumberjack Invitational while the CMU swimmers will rest until hosting the RMAC Championships, starting on Feb. 10.
