Former three-time All-Star Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose, whose MVP prime was cruelly cut down by a series of knee injuries, will get his annual United Center tribute on Saturday night, after a Bulls home clash against the Boston Celtics. This time, his No. 1 jersey is being hung in the rafters, alongside Michael Jordan‘s No. 33, Scottie Pippen‘s No. 23, Bob Love’s No. 10, and Jerry Sloan’s No. 4.

It’s set to be a star-studded affair, with many legends from Rose’s Chicago days — including former head coach Tom Thibodeau, who was unfairly canned in 2015 — set to attend.

Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen Get in the Game

Jordan and Pippen both took the time to deliver heartfelt missives to Rose ahead of the ceremony. Chicago’s official X account shared their messages.

“Derrick, congratulations on the retirement of your jersey. Very happy for you. You had an unbelievable career. You really represent the city of Chicago, the Chicago Bulls, your family, and yourself very, very well,” Jordan said. “So I’m very proud of you and very happy for your special night. Looking forward to coming to the United Center and seeing your jersey hanging up there with my jersey. Congratulations and enjoy your night.”

“Derrick, congratulations. You represent what it means to be a Chicago Bull. Thank you for believing in the city,” Pippen said. “Thank you for giving everything you had. And thank you for inspiring the next generation. Once a Bull, always a Bull. Congratulations, my brother. Come on up with me.”

Rose Parade of NBA Tributes

Jordan and Pippen were just the tip of the iceberg when it came to Rose tributes Saturday.

A litany of NBA legends — including Bulls past and present — gave their flowers to the Simeon High School legend.

Beyond an extended conversation with Pippen, the video also features interviews with Rose’s family and family friends, high school coach Robert Smith, college coach John Calipari, Chicago All-Star-turned-Rose’s agent B.J. Armstrong, Jerry and Michael Reinsdorf, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, Pau Gasol, Kirk Hinrich, Carlos Boozer, Tom Thibodeau, Kyle Korver, Ronnie Brewer, Nazr Mohammed, Ayo Dosunmu, James Johnson, Jevon Carter, Matas Buzelis, John Paxson, Stacey King, Steve Kerr, Ron Adams, Bobby Portis Jr., Doug McDermott, Brad Miller, Chuck Swirsky, and Sam Smith on the Bulls side of the equation.

Rose’s Hall of Fame rivals also weighed in. Nemeses-turned-teammates LeBron James and Kevin Love, 12-time All-Star Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, 12-time All-Star not-quite-LA Clippers point guard Chris Paul, Sacramento Kings point guard Russell Westbrook, Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd, Defensive Player of the Year Warriors power forward Draymond Green all gave Rose his flowers.

Several superstars from the next NBA generation, who ascended while Rose was already in a different phase of his career: Devin Booker, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jayson Tatum, Rose’s Knicks teammates Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson, and Rose’s Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Karl-Anthony Towns. Talented perimeter players like Eric Gordon, Zach LaVine, Desmond Bane, and Andrew Wiggins also made cameos.

Evanston’s own Erik Spoelstra, Hall of Fame former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Chris Chelios, and Chicagoan Doc Rivers all dabbed up Rose from afar. Two other Windy City hoops legends, Anthony Davis and Candace Parker — Hall of Famers in their own right — also took turns shouting out the pride of Englewood. NBA commissioner Adam Silver even sent Rose a message.

So many Bulls from the Rose years were interviewed, in fact, that the big omissions were notable in their absence: Jimmy Butler, Ben Gordon, Mike Dunleavy Jr., John Salmons, Keith Bogans, Marco Belinelli, Omer Asik, Tyrus Thomas, Kurt Thomas, and all of Rose’s backup point guards (C.J. Watson, Nate Robinson, D.J. Augustin, Aaron Brooks, John Lucas III).
