As per ESPNCricinfo, the PCB wrote to the ICC stating it supports Bangladesh’s stance of not wanting to play their T20 World Cup 2026 games in India amid political turmoil. The report states that the PCB has also copied the other ICC board members on it. The ICC has called for a board meeting on Wednesday to discuss and find a solution to the Bangladesh problem. The report, however, states that Pakistan’s letter will have bare minimum effect on the ICC as the body has already made up its mind.
It all started with the BCCI asking Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman from the side amid soaring tensions between India and Bangladesh. The BCB responded by writing to the ICC that they feared the safety of their players in India and hence wanted their games to be relocated to Sri Lanka. While the ICC did offer to change venues within India while also patiently trying to explain the logistical nightmare behind the last-minute rescheduling, Bangladesh have not budged from their stance. They also suggested swapping groups with Ireland, which has been rejected.
A couple of days ago, reports had claimed that the ICC had asked Bangladesh to decide on their stance by January 21. However, BCB officials promptly denied and instead reiterated their stance.
