Greeley intracity basketball rivalries between Greeley Central, Greeley West and Northridge have taken centerstage over the past week.
But those certainly haven’t been the only intriguing local rivalries reignited recently on the hardwood. And there are plenty more heated matchups set for the next few weeks.
Roosevelt-Windsor girls
Shortly before winter break, Roosevelt (5-5) faced Windsor in a girls basketball game on Dec. 13.
The Wizards (8-3) picked up a dominant 67-32 win.
These two programs have played in some marquee matchups in recent years.
None were more prominent than the Rough Riders’ 54-44 win against Windsor in the Class 5A state title game in 2023. It was Roosevelt’s first girls state title in school history.

This past month’s encounter was the first time these two teams had met since that 2023-24 season.
Eaton-Highland boys and girls
Eaton and Highland don’t have to travel very far to renew their longstanding rivalry.
About a week ago, on Jan. 9, the Reds made the quick trip to Ault and walked away with a pair of quality nonconference wins.
The Eaton boys (8-2) picked up a hard-fought, defensive-minded 57-50 win against a very strong Huskies team (7-3).
The Reds girls team (5-5) earned a high-scoring 73-60 against Highland (4-5).
Platte Valley-Eaton boys and girls
Platte Valley and Eaton have highly anticipated clashes in just about all sports.
Basketball is certainly no different.
The Broncos played host to the Reds in girls and boys basketball games shortly after winter break, on Jan. 6.
The two programs split their varsity clashes. Platte Valley girls (7-3) picked up a big 47-41 win, while the Eaton boys earned a dominant 71-45 victory.

The coming weeks will bring even more heated rivalry action within the local prep sports scene.
While the Greeley Central-Greeley West-Northridge clashes draw plenty of interest, they aren’t the only intracity Greeley rivalry games that take place on the basketball court.
In an always intriguing small-schools matchup, Dayspring Christian will play host to Union Colony in a girls (6:30 p.m.) and boys game (8 p.m.) on Tuesday.
The Eagles girls and boys are both currently 3-6. The Timberwolves girls and boys are 4-4.
Another of the area’s long-established small-school rivalries will be renewed on Feb. 3, as Prairie plays host to Briggsdale. The girls game starts at 4 p.m. with the boys game slated for 6 p.m.
The talented Mustangs girls team is 6-2, and the also potent boys team is 7-2. The Falcons’ girls are 6-2, and their boys are 1-6.

The two programs will clash an additional time this season, in Greeley on Feb. 10.
The Bulldogs’ boys team is currently 7-3. University’s girls team is 9-1 and is the defending 4A state champion.
Building a budding rivalry, with both schools’ ascension in 3A, Windsor Charter faces Highland in boys and girls games on Feb. 10.
The Huskies host the Firebirds’ girls team (5-5) at 6 p.m.
Windsor Charter’s boys (7-2) play host to Highland at 7 p.m. in a game that could have plenty of late-season influence in the race for the 3A Patriot League title.
The powerhouse University and Holy Family girls basketball programs also may be forming a budding rivalry, considering both teams have been prime contenders for the 4A state title in recent years.
The Bulldogs play host to the Tigers (6-4) at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in University’s final game of the regular season. This could serve as the perfect primer for another postseason run for the Bulldogs.
