It won’t get the headlines of a major trade or free agent signing, but maneuvering within the Chicago Cubs’ front office is nevertheless very important. Every year in the offseason we see movement, sometimes departures, sometimes outside hires, often promotions, and this year, Tyler Zombro getting the bump to VP of Pitching isn’t the only move.
The Cubs have also announced that Garrett Chiado has been promoted to Assistant General Manager, joining Jared Banner and Ehsan Bokhari as the AGMs in the organization, serving under General Manager Carter Hawkins and President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer.
The official announcement has more on Chiado, who worked his way up through the analytics department, and two other in-house promotions:
“The Chicago Cubs today announced baseball operations promotions heading into the 2026 season.
Garrett Chiado has been named Assistant General Manager after serving as Director, Pro Strategy and Director, Pro Analytics over the previous four seasons. In his new position, Chiado will oversee Pro Acquisitions and work closely with executive leadership on broader organizational strategy and acquisition initiatives.
Chiado joined the Cubs Research and Development group in 2016, and previously was Senior Player Evaluation Analyst, Research and Development. He earned a B.S. in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Penn State University in 2010 and his Master of Science in Sports Management from Florida State University in 2014.
Ben Martin has been named Assistant Director, Major League Development following one year as the Assistant Director, Player Development. In this role, Martin will lead evidence-based planning and analysis for major league position players, while ensuring alignment with the Player Development department.
Prior to his role in Player Development, Martin served as the Dominican Republic Academy Field Coordinator in 2024 and the Arizona Complex League Hitting Coach for the 2023 season. He also spent time as the Research & Development Hitting Analyst and as a Development Coach in Myrtle Beach. Martin received his Bachelor of Arts in Statistics from St. John Fisher College (N.Y.) in 2020.
Brad Moylan has been named Coordinator, Major League Video and Technology, after serving as the International Scouting Data and Technology Assistant since November 2023. In his new role, Moylan will oversee the club’s instant replay process, providing video and technology support, and assisting with advance logistics.
Moylan joined the Cubs in May 2022 as the Baseball Systems Intern for the Arizona Complex League and then held the same role for the Tennessee Smokies in 2023. Prior to Chicago, he was a Baseball Video Scout with Sports Info Solutions and a Minor League Spring Training Assistant for the San Francisco Giants. Moylan graduated from the University of Mary (N.D.) in 2021 with a degree in Accounting.”
