Alan Jackson Opens Up About Why He Withdrew From Nick Reiner's Murder Case ...Middle East

News by : (Us magazine) -

Alan Jackson, the lawyer formerly representing Nick Reiner, stepped down from the murder case involving Rob and Michele Reiner, but is opening up more about his departure.

Jackson appeared on Sirius XM’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” on Tuesday, January 13, to answer some burning questions about the case and Nick’s fate. Host Kelly Ripa asked the question on everyone’s minds: Why did Jackson withdraw from the case?

“Everybody’s got that same looming question, and I am compelled because of legal standards and ethical obligations; there’s certain things I simply cant divulge, Kelly, in terms of why there was a change in counsel, why we stepped away and the public defenders office stepped in and I will reiterate what I said in the press conference, which is, my team, me personally and my team, remain completely and utterly committed to Nick’s best interest,” Jackson said. “We always will be committed to his best interests. I want nothing but the best for him and I want him to get the most robust defense that he possibly can get. And I know he will in the hands of the public defender’s office.”

Earlier in the day, Jackson answered a similar question on the “Hot Mics” podcast with Billy Bush about speculation surrounding his withdrawal.

“So obviously something happened with my ability and my team’s ability to continue the representation, but I don’t want you, your audience, anybody else to start speculating as to what that might be. I have not said a word about it,” he told Bush.

Bush also specifically asked if his exit was related to the retainer or money.

“I mean, you can’t say that. You can’t say that, Billy. You can’t say that something happened with the retainer because I’ve never said that,” Jackson fired back.

Jackson added of the speculation, “I get it. But by the same token, I’m saying that it does not matter at this point. I said what I said at the press conference because it’s true. And I believe it in my heart, and I also said that my team and I remain and will remain completely committed to the best interests of Nick Reiner. And that’s also true, and that’s not going to change. But I’m not going to get into the specifics of why it was necessary for me to withdraw.”

Jackson announced his departure from Nick’s legal counsel during a court appearance on Wednesday, January 7.

“We have no choice but to withdraw as counsel and ask to be removed,” Jackson said in court in front of Judge Theresa McGonigle.

McGonigle then asked Nick, 32, if he was OK with the change in legal counsel, to which he responded, “Yeah, I agree to that.”

Jackson addressed reporters outside the courthouse following his withdrawal from the case.

“As you know, this morning, I had to withdraw as Nick Reiner’s counsel,” he said after the hearing. “Circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick’s control, have dictated that, sadly, it’s made it impossible for us to continue our representation of Nick.”

Jackson continued, “I’m legally and I’m ethically prohibited from explaining all the reasons why, I know that’s a question on everyone’s mind. We expect the public defender to step in, they’ve already been appointed and very carefully protect Nick Reiner’s interests as he moves forward through the system.”

The lawyer said that he and his team “remain deeply committed” to Nick and are looking out for his “best interests.”

“In fact, we know, we’re not just convinced, we know that the legal process will reveal the true facts of the circumstances surrounding Nick’s case,” Jackson said. “What we’ve learned, and you can take this to the bank, is that, pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder.”

Nick Reiner Looks Emotional, Has Newly Shaved Head in Courtroom Sketch

Nick was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder hours after his parents, Rob and Michele, were found dead in their Brentwood, California, home on December 14, 2025, with stab wounds. If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined Rob and Michele died from “multiple sharp force injuries” and ruled their deaths a homicide.

Jackson made his first court appearance as Nick’s lawyer on December 17. Following his January 7 withdrawal, public defender Kimberly Greene took over as Nick’s legal counsel.

Green told reporters outside of the courthouse on January 7 that “it’s not uncommon for private counsel to turn over cases” to public defenders. However, Tre Lovell, who runs The Lovell Firm, told Us Weekly that Jackson’s “withdrawal was a bit of a surprise.”

“Conventionally, attorneys may choose to withdraw in criminal defense cases for a variety of reasons, which could include financial issues or hesitations to get involved based on the evidence and chances of success,” the attorney told Us after the legal shakeup.

Lovell also clarified, “Every defendant has a right to a public defender. That doesn’t mean that Reiner at some point can’t get a private attorney.”
