History Making Performances From Playoff Win, LaFleur Update, What’s Next? And Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

How does one get back into the swing of things at work after what the Bears did on Saturday? I don’t know, but I guess we’ll find out together.

ICYMI: It’ll be the Chicago Bears hosting the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at Soldier Field in the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs. Kickoff time (it’ll either be 2 p.m. CT or 5:30 p.m. CT) and what network will televise the game will be announced at some point during the Houston Texans-Pittsburgh Steelers playoff bout on Monday Night Football. I suppose that teasing time and TV for divisional round games is one way to boost ratings for a game that I otherwise wouldn’t watch with intent. No one makes an event out of a nothingburger like the NFL. A complete look at the NFL’s Divisional Round slate:

Reading this in The Athletic makes me think that you’ll struggle to find a team with more reslience still standing in the NFL playoff picture than your Chicago Bears. The NFC playoff picture is wide open. Heck, the Super Bowl picture is totally up for grabs. There is no dominant team. There is no dynasty steamrolling through and crushing everything in its path. So why can’t it be the Bears’ year? A new, fun lens to view the Bears’ epic comeback vs. the Packers:

— NFL (@NFL) January 11, 2026 Three Bears players put their names in the franchise postseason record books (h/t The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain) with how they performed on Saturday: Quarterback Caleb Williams set a new franchise record for passing yards in a playoff game with 361. Williams unseats Mitchell Trubisky, whose 303 passing yards in the January 2019 playoff game against the Eagles was the previous best record. At least I got one bold prediction right this weekend. Kicker Cairo Santos’ 51-yard boot is now the longest successful field goal try in Bears playoff history. Considering the concerns about him throughout the year, I bet that feels awesome to hold that record. Colston Loveland set rookie and tight end team records for receiving yards (137) in a playoff game. That guy is becoming a star in front of our very eyes. More fun facts rom Saturday’s Bears win:

Another fun one via @stathead.com: Entering last night, NFL teams were 1-67 in playoff games when they turn it over at least twice, force 0 turnovers, and have no more than 1 sack on defense. That record is now 2-67.

There were 93 games this season in which a QB threw at least 40 passes, playoffs included. On 48 passes vs the Packers last night, only 4.2% of Caleb Williams' throws were at or behind the line of scrimmage, the lowest mark in any such game this season. (Per TruMedia) Slingin' it

— Derrik Klassen (@qbklass.bsky.social) January 11, 2026 at 11:39 AM From Sports Business Journal: Legendary broadcaster Al Michaels is set to return to be the voice of the NFL’s Amazon Prime Video coverage in 2026. One of my takeaways after a rewatch of the game was that Michaels had a rough one, particularly in the early going. Misidentifying players and possession left me feeling like a confused viewer. It was good to hear him find his stride later in the game. But there were some tough stretches. I hope Al can find a way to retire on top because his career deserves a triumphant ending. Welp, I have a new favorite photo of Bears rookie Luther Burden III:

i’m calling this the luther burden force choke celly and idc what anyone else calls it.[image or embed]

— Funky Cold Luda (@funkycoldluis.bsky.social) January 11, 2026 at 9:44 PM Luther Burden III was my favorite pick from the Bears 2025 NFL Draft class. A player who had legitimate first-down talent who fell into Round 2 because of perceived character issues reminds me of what the narrative around George Pickens from the 2022 NFL Draft. Maybe I’m getting too into the weeds here, but this is the kind of thing that makes you think about who plants what info around draft time as a means to an end to get their guy in a value spot. Plus, he clearly plays with a ruthless aggression against the Packers. How can you not love that? Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin I see that Bears coach Ben Johnson’s “F— the Packers!” declaration has rubbed some people the wrong way. To that, I say: “Go argue with a wall.” If Aaron Rodgers can yell to fans in the stands (and I’m pulling this direct quote from The Athletic) that “”I own you. All my f—ing life. I own you. I still own you.” in 2022, then Ben Johnson yelling, to the players in his locker room, “F— the Packers” is fair game. I understand that this might be a tough time for some Packers fans who are dealing with adversity in the first time in their lives as football fans, so I’ll allow for some grace here. But turnabout is fair play. And the lesson to take away here is that sometimes you’re the dog, and other times you’re the hydrant. I think you know where I’m going with this… The latest on Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur:

Packers now are expected to try to work out a deal in the coming days to keep head coach Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, per sources. pic.twitter.com/PxugiVoCDQ

As @RapSheet reported two days ago, the Packers are expected to try to work out a deal to keep Matt LaFleur in Green Bay.Other teams with vacancies are watching closely; LaFleur would immediately be a top candidate if he becomes available. t.co/bgzhM9pRwV

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 12, 2026 I think the wording and framing is important here. The Packers being expected to try to work out a deal to keep Matt LaFleur as their head coah does not mean that they will. The way that this is being presented is that a mutual parting of ways is still an option (as is an extension). For obvious reasons, we will continue monitoring this situation. On the one hand, I’m not sure if this was the right time and place for this interaction. But on the other hand, it isn’t the worst thing in the world and people blowing it out of proportion makes me think that we need to recalibrate things in terms of how we should expect coaches and media folks to interact:

— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) January 11, 2026 One thing I feel that gets lost in the madness of having a gig in sports media is the concept of being a conduit between the team and fans. That is a part of the job that some people lose sight of after a lengthy time in the biz. I hope it is a perspective that I never lose because it is one of my favorite parts of the job. Don’t get me wrong. It isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. But the connection and relationship that we have with me, as a writer, and you, as a reader, is something I do not and will not ever take for granted.
