Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter has released a statement following the NCAA’s decision to deny an eligibility waiver for Trinidad Chambliss.
Chambliss is seeking a 6th year of eligibility as he did not play his second season at Division II Ferris State due to medical reasons. The waiver was officially denied by the NCAA on Friday afternoon, which would mean Chambliss is ineligible to return to Oxford for the 2026 season.
Carter said Ole Miss is “disappointed” in the decision and plans to appeal. Here’s his brief statement on the matter:

— Keith Carter (@KeithCarterOM) January 9, 2026In addition to Ole Miss’s appeal, Chambliss’ attorney, Tom Mars, said in a statement on Friday that he plans to file a lawsuit in the state of Mississippi regarding this ruling.
Chambliss does have the option of declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft in the coming weeks as well. With more litigation on the horizon, there’s no timetable for when this saga may reach its ultimately conclusion. Chambliss has previously stated his intentions to return to Ole Miss next fall if he’s granted another year of eligibility.
With his status in doubt, though, Ole Miss has begun recruiting other quarterbacks for next season. Former Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight was linked to Ole Miss on Friday.
