Yes, you read that correctly. The Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat game has been postponed to a later date. The reason? Rain — kind of.

The combination of a constant downpour in Chicago all evening with ice for the Blackhawks under the hardwood created a condensation situation that simply couldn’t be fixed. The United Center crew worked to make the court playable for almost two hours, but couldn’t make it work.

The original start time for the game was 7:11 p.m. CT. As you can see from the time on the NBA tweet above, the official announcement came almost two hours later. Players on both teams ultimately did not feel comfortable allowing the game clock to start running under those conditions.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened in the NBA. Plenty of basketball teams share an arena with their ice hockey counterparts. Back in 2016, a regular-season game between the Sacramento Kings and the Philadelphia 76ers was also postponed for the very same reason.

But boredom is the impetus for creativity, and despite the delay, the two teams still managed to put on some entertainment.

So what did the Bulls and Heat do before the official announcement?

First up was a Benny the Bull vs. Tyler Herro behind-the-backcourt, blind half-court challenge. It was Herro’s first game back in almost a month, and he immediately found himself in the deep end. The mops may not have worked, but Benny sure did, sweeping the floor with Tyler by banking in an absolute worldie on his very first shot.

Reigning WNBA champion A’ja Wilson was also in attendance at the UC, showing her support for her partner, Bam Adebayo. A’ja was spotted borrowed a professional camera, smiling, curtsying, and clearly having fun while everyone waited for play to resume. Considering the current WNBA CBA situation, a future career in sports photography… perhaps?

She also joined forced with the “enemy”, Benny the Bull to gift a fan in attendance decked out head-to-toe in A’ja gear. A true all-around entertainer.

Also unfolding on the court was a game of HORSE between Jevon Carter and Isaac Okoro. Hopefully, the winner earns a few more minutes, because Okoro at power forward is not a fun watch. But the game reportedly ended in a tie.

The fun, unfortunately, didn’t last. Players were eventually forced to return to their locker rooms while awaiting an update. And nearly two hours later, when that update finally came, it resulted in a postponement.

Hey — at least the Bulls didn’t lose!
