Mid season meets in the state of Texas are upon us for the TISCA- Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association. The 2024 meets were highlighted by standout swims from Maximus Williamson (now swimming for UVA), and Micah Tennison (committed to Texas A&M)
In Texas, the High School swim season is so lengthy, that they compete in a midseason meet called TISCA. Similarly to the NCAA format with dual meets, mid season championships and conference/state champs. The headliner meet The Lone Star Classic was one of six TISCA meets around the Thanksgiving holiday.
TISCA LONE STAR CLASSIC- November 21-23 in Mansfield Texas
Men’s Winner: Southlake Carroll Runner Up: Keller Women’s Winner: Southlake Carroll Runner Up: KellerNotable Swims:
-Livi Roberts (Texas A&M commit and a 2025 UIL State Championship 3rd place podium finish in 500 free) competed in the 200 IM, going a 2:00.59, dropping 2 seconds for a new life time best, and followed up the win with helping Rockwell claim 2nd in the 200 free relay.
-Maxwell Stanislaus (Stanford commit and UIL State Champion in 200 free relay, and podiumed in 400 free relay, 200 free and 500 free); Won the 200 free, 100 fly and helped Keller to a 1st place in 200 medley relay, and 2nd place in 400 freestyle relay
-Avery McGuiness (freshman getting her first taste of high school swimming) won the 500 free going 4:57.25, went a best time in the 200 free of 1:51.92 and helped Mansfield get 3rd in the 400 free relay
-Olivia Colombo (ASU commit and 4- time finalist at UIL State championships) won the 100 back dipping under 55 seconds going 54.87 which broke both the meet and pool record
-Adam Huynh swam a 56.72 100 breaststroke to win the title for Keller High School, while also getting on the podium in the 200 IM, and 400 free relay, and winning the 200 medley relay
TISCA-West Houston meet November 20-23 in Houston Texas
Men’s Winner: Kingwood High School Men’s Runner Up: Austin Lake Travis Women’s Winner: Kingwood High School Women’s Runner Up: Klein High SchoolNotable Swims:
-Women’s 200 medley relay was separated by .02 to kick off the finals session of the meet going 1:47.96 and 1:47.98 respectively by Kingwood Park and Kingwood High School
-Isabella Muir (Princeton commit) won both the 200 free in a time of 1:50.88, and the 500 free in 5:00.75
-Similarly Jackson Hartzler (Ohio State commit) won the 200 free in 1:37.26 breaking both the meet and pool records and the 500 in 4:29.61 breaking the meet record.
-Cadence Johnson swam a 54.46 to win the 100 butterfly which was a lifetime best and broke the pool record, also swam a best time in the 200 IM going 2:02.34 winning the event breaking another pool record
-Ben Liang (University of Pennsylvania commit) won the 100 back dipping under the 50 second mark going 49.61 which broke the meet record
TISCA- Gulf Invite November 19-21 in Shenandoah TX
Men’s Winner: The Woodlands Men’s Runner Up: Obra Tompkins Women’s Winner: The Woodlands Women’s Runner Up: Obra Tompkins Notable Swims:As previously mentioned Micah Tennison swam a lifetime best time in the 100 free going 44.38, and won the 500 free in a time of 4:29.06 which was a drop of 8 seconds from his morning swim.
Nik Petzold of The Woodlands High School swam multiple lifetime bests, leading off the 200 free relay going 21.82, his second place finish of 45.68 in the 100 free and winning time of 56.82 in the 100 breast. Also helping Woodlands to the win in the 200 medley relay
Winnie Liu (Rice Commit) of John Foster Dulles HS swam a best time in the 100 free at 50.71 and leading off the 200 free relay. While also winning the 200 freestyle in 1:50.37
Brooke Miller (Vanderbilt Commit) of Woodlands HS helped her squad win the 200 free and 400 free relays while individually winning the 50 free in 23.03 and getting second in the 100 free at 50.89.
TISCA-Northeast Zone November 20-23 in Texarkana TX
Men’s Winner: Richardson Pearce and Tyler Legacy High School *tied at 391 points Men’s Runner Up: Klein Cain Women’s Winner: Klein Oak High School Runner Up: Richardson PearceNotable Swims:
-Madalyn Petty (member of US Junior National Team, primarily swimming off events) dropped 12 seconds from the morning swim to win the 200 IM final in 2:06.74
-Will White of Klein Cain HS won the 500 free by .02 over in a time of 4:48.44 going a lifetime best over Kanyon Michaelis of JJ Pearce HS going 4:48.46
-Sean Lipp (Northern Kentucky University commit) swam a 57.84 to win the 100 yard breaststroke and swam a lifetime best 200 freestyle going 1:50.68
-Richard Pearce won the 400 free relay in 3:14.92 to force the tie in overall scoring
TISCA South Zone- December 5-7 in San Antonio Texas
Men’s Winner: San Antonio Reagan High School Men’s Runner Up: San Antonio Johnson Jaguars Women’s Winner: San Antonio Reagan High School Women’s Runner Up: Dripping Springs High SchoolNotable Swims:
-Featured events such as 400 medley relay, 50’s of stroke, 800 free relay, 400 IM, and 200s of stroke, the 1000 free as well as the 100 IM. In comparison to the normal high school events
-Kate Canales (University of Florida commit) helped Boerne Champion High School to a win in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, and a second place in the 400 free relay while individually swam a 1:49.63 200 yard freestyle to win, a 55.09 to win the 100 butterfly, and a 55.77 to win the 100 IM. While also placing first in the 50 breaststroke and third in the 50 butterfly showing off her versatility.
-Samuel Killpack helped San Antonio Reagan win 4 relays in the 400 medley, 800 free, 200 medley and 400 free. Individually he won the 50 back by .01 over Walker Addison going 24.60 and placed top 8 in the 50 fly, 100 IM, 50 free, 100 fly.
-Johnny Ganser and his team at Ronald Reagan High School won the 400 medley relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 free relay, while swimming a 1:50.87 200 back winning by an impressive margin. Throughout the weekend Ganser podiumed in the 100 IM, 1000 free, 200 free, and 100 free.
-Averie Hager (Notre Dame Commit) won the 50 freestyle going 23.12, 50 fly in 24.27 and the 200 fly in 1:58.45. While also placing in the top 8 in the 200 free relay, 100 back, 400 free relay, 400 medley relay, and 100 IM.
