A wildfire in southeastern Boulder County on Monday afternoon prompted evacuations and the closure of U.S. Highway 287. 

The National Weather Service’s Office in Boulder said the fire was burning near South 104th Street and Colorado 287, just north of the Northwest Parkway and north of Broomfield. Pushed by strong winds, the fire is moving east, Vinnie Montez, a spokesperson for the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said. 

Traffic has been stopped at Highway 287 and Dillon Road, he said. Southbound 287 is also closed.

“Law enforcement and fire (agencies) are in the process of launching evacuations,” Montez said in a video posted to Facebook. “Even if you haven’t received the evacuation yet, you need to heed the warning if you do receive it. “
