ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The impressive band of lake effect snow that has been pummeling the Tug Hill region and areas north and east of Rochester will continue to do so into at least early Saturday. Most of the snow will stay out of our immediate area, but the band will flirt with our northern towns near the lakeshore into Saturday morning. The best chance of getting a few inches of fresh lake fluff will be north of Route 104 in Orleans and Wayne Counties.
A slight wind shift on Saturday will push that band slightly inland, with a better chance of some snow showers closer to Rochester. In all, expect little accumulation away from the lakeshore. A weak clipper moving through on Sunday will bring an uptick in scattered snow showers Saturday night into Sunday morning, followed by some lake snow showers. Once again, accumulations should remain minor, with an inch or less for most spots.
If you’re going to the Bills last regular season game at the current Highmark Stadium, dress for January! Temperatures will be in the lower 20s, and some passing flakes are possible. This shouldn’t be a “snow” game, but rather just some festive flakes falling.
If you need a break from the cold, there are signs that we’ll get a bit of a January thaw next week, with temperatures climbing through the 30s and into the 40s by the end of the week with some rain showers. But, there are also signs that the thaw may not be long-lived.
