Weather is believed to have played a role in a deadly crash that killed a driver in a far northwest Chicago suburb on New Year’s Eve.

Police said the crash happened just after 5 p.m. on Illinois Route 173, just west of Oak Grove Road.

There, a Nissan Rogue was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and hit a tree before catching fire and becoming fully engulfed in flames, the McHenry County Sheriff’s office reported.

A 29-year-old driver, a Harvard resident who was the only occupant in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said “weather conditions and speed are believed to be factors in the crash,” which remains under investigation.
