The 10% Club: Opta’s Best Under-the-Radar FPL Picks for Gameweek 20 ...Middle East

News by : (The Analyst) -

Who are the players to add to your Fantasy Premier League team for Gameweek 20 of 2025-26? We assess the Opta data to reveal our top under-the-radar picks.

There’s a very tight turnaround between the end of gameweek 19 and the start of 20, so you have to act fast. Fortunately for you, we’ve still found time to run the numbers on who could be a good addition to your FPL team for this weekend.

We’ve crunched the Opta data to identify five players you should consider owning on your Wildcard, despite them currently being picked by fewer than 10% of FPL managers.

GK – Nick Pope | 5.1m | 4.6% Ownership

Nick Pope returned from injury in Newcastle’s win at Burnley on Tuesday. While he was unable to keep a clean sheet against his former club, the England international did make a couple of saves. One was from an Opta-defined ‘big chance’, meaning it was reasonable to expect the attacker to score. Pope has kept out five of these golden opportunities across his last five Premier League appearances.

Irrespective of whether he faces big chances over the next few matchdays, he stands a reasonable chance of shutting out his forthcoming opponents. The next two gamedays take place within the next week, with just five teams benefitting from the advantage of playing both games at home. Newcastle are one such club.

They host Crystal Palace and Leeds, two teams in the bottom eight for Premier League goals scored in 2025-26. We then break for the third round of the FA Cup, but Newcastle head to Wolves after that, another game where a clean sheet is a distinct possibility.

Robin Roefs (4.7) and Jordan Pickford (4.5) are the only goalkeepers delivering more points-per-start than Pope this season (4.4). The Newcastle shot stopper’s average should rise in the next week.

DEF – James Tarkowski | 5.5m | 9.4% Ownership

Everton have been erratic at their new ground, with the last six league games there alternating between wins and losses. It often takes teams time to settle into new surroundings, so it’s no surprise their form has fluctuated.

It should improve in the next seven days with Brentford and Wolves visiting the Hill Dickinson Stadum, though. The Toffees’ following two home matches are against Leeds and Bournemouth, so also winnable, but we’re more concerned with the immediate future around here.

Everton’s next two opponents are in the bottom five for away goals scored and points earned on the road. This makes it an excellent time to add James Tarkowski to your squad.

He has the fifth-most FPL points of any defender in 2025-26, plus he leads the way among those who are not currently in at least 10% of teams. Tarkowski has yet to score this season but is clearly a threat in set-piece situations, while (perhaps surprisingly) only four Everton players have created more chances than him this term.

He’ll be targeting clean sheets as a priority, but Tarkowski could give your a team a boost at the other end too.

MID – Leandro Trossard | 6.9m | 1.5% Ownership

Let’s say you were still looking for a reliable Bruno Fernandes replacement, one of the more popular midfielders in FPL. To replicate his 2025-26 output, you’d need someone who averaged at least 5.8 FPL points per start.

There are only six players who fit the bill. If we then limit the search to players who are into double figures for starts, we’re down to four: Antoine Semenyo (6.3 points per start), Phil Foden, Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard (all 5.9). The first three are among the top four most-selected midfielders in FPL, along with Morgan Rogers.

Yet only 1.5% of you have Trossard on your squad. He perhaps has a reputation for not being a regular, but that hasn’t really been the case this season. The Belgian started 11 of Arsenal’s last 15 league matches, delivering three goals and three assists in his last six.

He scored and set up a goal in midweek so should retain his spot for the trip to Bournemouth. While the Cherries have been defensively sound at home, they’ve conceded the fourth-most Premier League goals this season.

Arsenal follow that game by hosting a Liverpool side who have struggled for clean sheets all season. Trossard once scored a hat-trick against the Reds and has recorded goal contributions in two of his last three appearances against them. He could be just the wildcard your FPL team needs this week.

MID – Lucas Paquetá | 5.9m | 2.0% Ownership

The next two matchdays could go a long way to making or breaking West Ham’s hopes of staying up.

The Hammers have won just three Premier League matches in 2025-26. Two of them came within a week in early November, with the eight games since yielding just four points. They’ve only lost two of those recent matches by more than one goal, against Liverpool and Manchester City, but it’s time to put points on the board.

The fixture list will rarely give them a better opportunity. Two of their victories occurred against teams currently alongside West Ham in the bottom four. They head to Wolves on Saturday before hosting Nottingham Forest in midweek, giving them two opponents mired in relegation trouble.

It’s obviously hard to find a player in form at a struggling team. Lucas Paquetá just about fits the bill after scoring and registering an assist against Brighton on Tuesday, though. The Brazilian leads the Hammers’ creativity standings, with 2.1 expected assists, while only Jarrod Bowen has more expected goals.

Paquetá has already scored against Forest and collected an FPL assist against Burnley this season. He has form against Premier League strugglers, which his team will hope can continue in the next week. Nuno Espírito Santo needs the former Lyon man to deliver, and he can do so for you too.

FWD – Benjamin Sesko | 7.2m | 3.3% Ownership

Manchester United ended 2025 in disappointing fashion. They failed to beat Wolves at home, allowing the visitors to record only their third point of the season. If expected goals is any guide, then United were perhaps lucky to even draw the game.

Their goal was scored by Joshua Zirkzee. However, it came via his only shot of the match, whereas Benjamin Sesko had six efforts. The Slovenian picked up the unwanted record of being the only player to have four shots on target in a Premier League match without scoring this season. It has only happened 10 times in any of Europe’s top five leagues, so is a real rarity.

Two of Sesko’s shots were classified as big chances, with the 22-year-old having now missed four of them since his last league goal. He has also had 13 attempts from inside the box since he previously found the net in the Premier League, so it’s reasonable to think another goal is coming.

United’s next two games are away, but in Leeds and Burnley they face two of the worst five defences for goals conceded. As only Matheus Cunha has played at least as many minutes while averaging more shots per 90 for United, Sesko should get chances to end his barren run.
