Police in Portage, Indiana, were investigating after a man was found dead in a field on New Year’s Day.
The Portage Police Department, in a Facebook post, said first responders were called to U.S. Highway 6 and Swanson Road for the report of a deceased male subject.
Authorities addressed social media rumors in the post, saying the individual was not homeless nor a resident of the nearby nursing home.
The individual hadn’t been identified as of Thursday evening. An investigation remains underway.
