Rams WR Davante Adams, RB Kyren Williams questionable for game vs. Cardinals ...Middle East

News by : (The Orange County Register) -

LOS ANGELES — The Rams (11-5) are listing receiver Davante Adams (hamstring), running back Kyren Williams (ankle), running back Blake Corum (ankle), left tackle Alaric Jackson (knee) and linebacker Omar Speights (ankle) as questionable for Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Arizona Cardinals (3-13).

Speaking with reporters on Friday, head coach Sean McVay said the day’s practice would determine whether or not those players are ready to go this weekend.

“Today will give us a little bit more clarity,” McVay said.

Adams — who has been listed as doubtful and not played in the last two games — returned to practice for the first time since Week 15 on Thursday, participating in individual drills.

“He felt really good,” McVay said. “Watching how he’s handled that has given me some insight into what a special human being he is and the mental toughness and just the fortitude and resilience that he has.”

Williams has been a limited participant at practice this week, but McVay said he felt good about the lead back’s ability to play on Sunday after he injured his ankle against the Falcons in Week 17. Williams described the injury as a high ankle sprain, but because of the tightrope surgery he had on his right ankle in 2022 he will be able to play through the end of the season.

Corum returned to practice as a limited participant on Friday after rehabbing to the side on Wednesday and Thursday.

McVay did rule out cornerback Josh Wallace (ankle) and right guard Kevin Dotson (ankle) for Sunday.

Dotson sprained his ankle in Week 16 against Seattle and has not practiced since. He was in a walking boot and on crutches at the practice facility last week, but is now walking without a boot.

“There’s a possibility, but just taking that a week at a time,” McVay said when asked if Dotson would be ready for the playoffs.

But the Rams do expect to activate tight end Tyler Higbee from injured reserve in time for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals, barring any setbacks, McVay said.

Why Quentin Lake got his extension

Friday was McVay’s first chance to address the media after the Rams signed safety Quentin Lake to a three-year, $42 million contract extension on Thursday.

“Represents everything that we love about what we want to be about, the values, the principles,” McVay said. “I think he’s had great production, great versatility. But more importantly, I think you look at it there’s a reason he’s basically been unanimously been voted as a captain the last couple years. He’s got an incredible way about himself. Some of these special players, they elevate people that they’re around and situations that they’re a part of.”

Lake’s extension is the second in-season move the Rams have made this year to keep one of their defensive captains around long-term after agreeing to a three-year extension with linebacker Nate Landman in November.

Historically, the Rams have not invested heavily in the safety and linebacker positions, preferring to make moves around the margins to improve those spots on the defense. But McVay wasn’t ready to say these moves signal a full change in roster-building philosophy.

“You say it’s a position, but what about this player? What about Nate Landman and Quentin Lake? … How do they elevate the spaces that they’re in and the people that they’re around?” McVay said. “I think that’s more what that is a reflection of, but there’s also been some learning opps I can look at and it’s evolving, it’s never static and steady. If we talked about the evolution of position value and things like that, No. 1 is always about the players, but also these things evolve on a year-to-year basis because this league and coaches and players do such a good job of making it as challenging as possible to sustain a certain level of success.”
