I did not want to let a major D’Andre Swift accomplishment go completely overlooked before we flipped the calendar to 2026.

Because while it might have been easy for it to get lost in the madness of the Bears’ Week 17 loss to the 49ers, I wasn’t going to allow that to happen. Instead, I’m taking a moment to acknowledge that D’Andre Swift’s rushing performance in San Francisco pushed him past the 1,000-yard rushing barrier. And he got a cool graphic from the Bears:

This marks the second time in D’Andre Swift’s career in which he has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark. He did it in 2023 as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Swift put up 1,049 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 16 games in Philly. He even made the Pro Bowl for his efforts. Swift parlayed that into a nifty multi-year free-agent deal with the Bears the following offseason.

In 15 games this season, D’Andre Swift has rushed for 1,047 yards and has scored nine touchdowns. The 4.9 yards per carry average is his second-best as a pro, and his highest yards-per-attempt average since posting a 5.5 Y/A number for the Detroit Lions in 2022. The way I see it, someone clearly loves running in Ben Johnson’s offense. Based on how things have gone this year, I can understand why.

D’Andre Swift isn’t the first Bears running back to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark. And he certainly won’t be the last. But he is the first player the team has had get to 1,000 rushing yards since quarterback Justin Fields racked up 1,143 yards on the ground in 2022. It is also worth noting that Swift is the first running back Chicago has had go for 1,000 yards since David Montgomery did it in 2020. So if you had been thinking that it felt like it had been awhile since the Bears rostered a 1,000-yard rusher, just know that your gut was correct in feeling that way.

I imagine that reaching this mark was satisfying for D’Andre Swift, even though it came in a loss. Swift needs only eight scrimmage yards, three rushing yards, and one touchdown to set new career highs in each of those categories. It would be neat to see him make it happen against the Lions, who drafted him in 2020 and traded him away in 2023.
