Watching the Chicago Bears defense allow 42 points and cough up 496 yards of total offense served as a reminder of how much work that unit has to do before we can consider it a championship-level group. And while there isn’t much that can be done to turn the tide this season, I look forward to digging into possible fits who will be coming out in the 2026 NFL Draft.
With the Bears not playing until Sunday, and the College Football Playoff resuming action over the next two days, I found myself browsing through draft-related content (including the latest BN NFL Mock Draft) in search of players who could make sense as possible targets for Chicago’s front office. And what better stage than the College Football Playoff to make your case.

NO. 2 OHIO STATE VS. NO. 10 MIAMI, 6:30 P.M. CT (WEDNESDAY)
Kayden McDonald, Ohio State defensive tackle Sonny Styles, Ohio State linebacker Kenyatta Jackson Jr., Ohio State edge rusher Davison Igbinosun, Ohio State cornerback Caden Curry, Ohio State edge rusher Jermaine Mathews Jr., Ohio State cornerback Akeem Mesidor, Miami edge Keionte Scott, Miami cornerbackPFF’s Trevor Sikkema on Ohio State edge rusher Kenyatta Jackson Jr.:
“At 6-foot-6 and 265 pounds, Jackson is a senior who has produced a career-high 40 pressures this season while posting a pass-rush win rate above 11.5% for the third straight year. He wins primarily with speed-to-power as a wide-aligned edge defender, occasionally rushing from a two-point stance. … Jackson has the prototypical NFL frame, but his draft range will hinge on how much additional juice teams believe he has as a finesse rusher.”
NO. 4 TEXAS TECH VS. NO. 5 OREGON, 11 A.M. CT (THURSDAY)
Matayo Uiagaleilei, Oregon edge A’Mauri Washington, Oregon defensive tackle Dillon thieneman, Oregon safety Teitum Tuioti, Oregon edge rusher Romello Height, Texas Tech edge defender Lee Hunter, Texas Tech defensive tackle Jacob Rodriguez, Texas Tech linebackerWe’ve seen Matayo Uiagaleilei (oregon) and Romello Height (Texas Tech) sent to the Bears in mock drafts done by my BN teammates Matt Rooney and Patrick Flowers. Should this front office hold on to its first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, I wouldn’t mind seeing this group use it on an edge rusher who can provide a boost to the trenches.

D’Angelo Ponds, Indiana cornerback Amre Ferrell, Indiana safety Tyrique Tucker, Indiana defensive tackle Aiden Fisher, Indiana linebacker LT Overton, Alabama edge rusher Bray Hubbard, Alabama safety Keon Sabb, Alabama safetyEven though the Nick Saban era is over at Alabama, the pipeline of talent in the secondary remains. So when I tune in for the Indiana-Alabama game, I’ll be sure to keep an eye on the cornerbacks and safeties in this one. After all, the Bears have two safeties on the cusp of free agency. They also have at least one cornerback (Nahshon Wright) who is on a one-year deal.
NO. 3 GEORGIA VS. NO. 6 MISSISSIPPI, 7 P.M. CT (THURSDAY)
C.J. Allen, Georgia linebacker Christen Miller, Georgia defensive tackle Daylen Everette, Georgia cornerback Zxavian Harris, Mississippi defensive tackle Suntarine Perkins, Mississippi linebackerI’m intrigued by what ESPN’s Matt Miller had to say about Georgia defensive tackle Christen Miller.
“Miller broke out this season,” MIller writes. “and the 6-foot-4, 305-pounder should be viewed as a potential 3-technique with some 5-technique versatility upfront.”
