This is the second consecutive year in which I have been sick on New Year’s Eve. That isn’t ideal, but it also isn’t a harbinger of doom. My 2025 was pretty nice. The Bears being good, fun, and entertaining helps for obvious reasons. But beyond the football stuff, I feel like I am on an upswing. Let’s keep stacking good days into a new year.
Before I dive in with some Bears thoughts, I wanted to take this moment to thank everyone for reading, sharing, and commenting on our content. And a bonus thanks to those of you who are subscribing to The BN Bears Podcast. Your patronage here is greatly appreciated. This team hasn’t always given us good times, which is what makes a year like this one that much more enjoyable. Your patience has been rewarded. I hope the best is yet to come.CHECK OUT EPISODE NO. 15 OF THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
Not that you didn’t already know, but this was my favorite sports moment of 2025:pic.twitter.com/7tkRssCHqO t.co/H3ME5VnGlC
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) December 31, 2025 The throw. The catch. The comeback. The moment I realized that DJ Moore hauled in that Caleb Williams throw and the Bears won that game is something I’ll always remember. It makes for a tremendous storytime, too. Other great and unforgettable Bears moments from 2025: Josh Blackwell’s game-winning field goal block against the Raiders, Colston Loveland’s game-winning touchdown against the Bengals, The Jake Moody Game, Cairo Santos nailing a game-winning field goal against the Vikings, and Tyson Bagent’s game-winning drive against the Chiefs in the preseason. Tyson Bagent runs the ball at Arrowhead Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images A sneaky top-2 Bears moment for me was getting the push notification on X from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero that Ben Johnson was choosing Chicago. The jolt of energy I felt in that moment was unlike anything I’ve ever felt when seeing an announcement for a new hire. None of the stuff mentioned above happens without Johnson taking this job. We should thank our lucky stars that he did. Tyson Bagent getting emotional after receiving a contract extension was a wholesome moment. Seeing players like DJ Moore, Cole Kmet, and Jaylon Johnson get their first taste of a winning season at the NFL level was neat, too. The Nahshon Wright story arc is something straight out of a Hollywood script. This team has so many fun storylines. I hope you’re enjoying them to the fullest. Adding center Drew Dalman in free agency ranks as one of the best moves of the offseason for any team. The same can be said for the trades acquiring left guard Joe Thuney and right guard Jonah Jackson. Do you see why we have been banging the table for serious investments along the offensive line? This is the kind of thing we have been envisioning for years. Better late than never, I suppose. The 2025 NFL Draft class of picks made by Bears General Manager Ryan Poles and his front office finds itself in the “best of” column. First-round pick Colston Loveland ranks as the second-highest-graded rookie through 17 weeks at Pro Football Focus. Meanwhile, second-rounder Luther Burden III ranks fourth. Left tackle Ozzy Trapilo and running back Kyle Monangai don’t make the top-15, but there is no denying their contributions to a winning team. I had forgotten that former Bears receiver Dez White called his shot:Never forget when Dez White stated the #Bears were going to be 2025 NFC North Champions when announcing Luther Burden’s draft selection! The foreshadowing is truly remarkable! #DaBears pic.twitter.com/5ugsVAmUlY
— SoBackSports (@SoBackSports) December 31, 2025 My least favorite game of the 2025 calendar year was the Week 2 loss against the Detroit Lions. That game was uncompetitive and awful to watch. It was no good all around. But perhaps that game turned out to be a turning point for this team. Because instead of turtling like the 2024 team did when facing any semblance of adversity, the 2025 squad used that as a jumping-off point to avoid the fate of repeating that kind of loss. I can’t wait to see what Bears team shows up in the Week 18 rematch. While the investments in the offensive line and at skill positions on offense were superb, the free-agent addition of defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo falls under the “worst of” column. Things were rough even before the season-ending injury. That second-year edge rusher Austin Booker has been playing well opposite of Montez Sweat makes me wonder about Odeyingbo’s fit. That is a really expensive rotational edge defender. Perhaps next year will be better for Dayo. But Year 1 was a dud. My least favorite moment of the 2025 calendar year was reading the Ty Dunne piece. Sigh. The things I do for you, dear reader, so you don’t have to do them yourself. That piece wasn’t worth your time, and I did my best to explain why I felt that way. I take pride in the authenticity and transparency in the reader-writer relationship we have here at BN, so it was important for me to get out in front of that with a post that colored in the blank spaces. The narratives of Caleb Williams not wanting to be coached or being difficult to coach are aging like milk behind a radiator:.@StaceyDales: "Caleb Williams has a thirst to win and to master the system that Ben (Johnson) is giving him."He has been extremely coachable. He's taken hard criticism."Listen to full segment: t.co/khbDX5Pudc pic.twitter.com/p5aFYWWb83
