Giddey and Coby Injured! Timberwolves 136, Bulls 101 – December 29, 2025 ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

I turned on the game tonight expecting either a tough win or a big loss — nothing in between. But losing Josh Giddey and Coby White was not the kind of collateral I expected the Bulls to take on. The only silver lining to a blowout loss is that it lets me get this article out a little faster.

First Half: Coby White OUT!

Not the prettiest of starts for either the Bulls or the Timberwolves. It felt like there was a lid on the rim. Chicago opened just 1-for-10 on their first 10 shots and finished the quarter 11-for-25 from the field. Eighteen of their 23 points came in the paint. Despite taking a two-point lead into the second quarter, the bigger story was Coby White. He checked in on two healthy legs and left limping on one with 5:25 remaining in the quarter. According to reports, it was a right calf strain, the same issue that sidelined him to start the season. Suddenly, the Bulls were staring at three more quarters without two key players: White and Collins.

The second quarter didn’t offer much relief on the scoreboard. A few early minutes from Jalen Smith had me thinking Chicago might finally make a push, but it never came. Anthony Edwards, who hadn’t hit a field goal in the first, knocked down his first shot and suddenly the floodgates opened. He powered a 15–2 Timberwolves run.

Chicago kept clanking anything outside the paint. It was like dumping out a box of Legos, brick after brick. They couldn’t create separation in either area they usually lean on, points in the paint or bench production, both nearly identical with Minnesota. The one category in which the Bulls did manage to outdo the Wolves? Turnovers, 6–1, and that’s not exactly the stat you hang your hat on.

Player of the half: Nikola Vucevic with 11 points and 4 rebounds.

Second Half: Josh Giddey OUT!

There was hope. There was promise. Being in a competitive game despite the poor shooting and the injuries felt like something the Bulls would gladly take. But not even a minute into the second half, things went from bad to worse. Josh Giddey dropped a dime, then immediately grabbed at his hamstring, never a good sign. The Bulls called timeout, and Giddey headed to the locker room with a hamstring injury, ruled out for the rest of the night.

So to recap, the Bulls had just lost their entire starting backcourt, one averaging 20 points a game and the other trending toward an All-Star nod, in about half a game of basketball.

You could feel the momentum tilt right away. The Wolves ripped off a quick 7–0 run, and while Chicago’s bench is good, they’re not that good. Things turned bad and then flat-out ugly. Minnesota stretched the lead to as many as 20, shot the ball better, forced more turnovers, turned those turnovers into points, and piled up 40 in the quarter. They didn’t just win the third, they might’ve won the game right there.

There wasn’t much to celebrate in the fourth, except for Rudy Gobert bricking two free throws and earning Bulls fans some free Chicago-style hot dogs. Beyond that, it was basically extended garbage time. Naz Reid, the former Sixth Man of the Year, was the difference maker. He put together a ridiculously efficient, season-high 33 points and slammed the door shut. Edwards was big and efficient with 23 of his own, and Randle quietly piled up an impressive 14 assists.

Once the lead ballooned to 33, the benches emptied and that was that, game over.

Bulls lose 136-101, officially on a two-game losing streak.

Chicago Bulls Player of the Night: Nikola Vučević

Vučević finished with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 59% from the field, 60% from the three.

Numbers to Remember

Tonight’s 35-point loss marks the Bulls’ second-worst defeat of the season. Their only bigger loss came against Miami, just one point worse than this one. Coby White left the game with a right calf strain. He’s already missed 17 games this season due to calf issues, 15 because of the right one and two because of the left.

Overall, White has missed 17 games to calf injuries this season—15 with the right and 2 with the left t.co/47BV6EjAg5
