All three major transit agencies in the city and suburbs will offer free rides for passengers to get them safely to and from New Year’s celebrations across the region, officials say.

CTA

Molson Coors will sponsor free rides on CTA trains and buses on New Year’s Eve, the company and the city announced.

All bus and train rides on the CTA will be free between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday, according to a spokesperson for Molson Coors.

More than 120,000 free rides were given to Chicago-area residents last year, according to the company.

Metra

Metra will operate reduced schedules on New Year’s Eve, but they will also hold the final departing trains on the BNSF, Metra Electric, Milwaukee District North, Milwaukee District West, Rock Island, Union Pacific North, Union Pacific Northwest, and Union Pacific West lines.

Metra will also offer free rides on all trains arriving or departing from downtown stations after 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

The agency is alerting passengers that alcohol will be banned on trains after 7 p.m.

Finally, all Metra lines will operate on Sunday schedules on New Year’s Day, with riders able to purchase $7 all-day passes.

Pace

According to Pace officials, free bus service and Paratransit Rides will be offered beginning at 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Those free rides will continue through 4 a.m. on Thursday, according to the agency.

“Pace is committed to helping everyone celebrate safely,” said Pace Executive Director Melinda Metzger. “We wish all of our riders a happy and healthy new year.”
