If there’s one way to describe Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride’s season, it’s record-setting.
Despite his team losing 37-14 to the Bengals and falling to 3-13 on the year, McBride — who had 10 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown on Sunday — set a few more records of the NFL and franchise varieties.
On top of surpassing DeAndre Hopkins’ 2020 mark (115) for the most catches by a Cardinals player in a season, McBride set a new NFL record for the most catches by a tight end in a season with 119. He passed former Cardinals teammate Zach Ertz and his 2018 total (116) for the league honor.
McBride is also the first tight end in NFL history to post multiple seasons of at least 110 catches.

While it’s been a season to forget for the Cardinals, it’s been one to remember for McBride from an individual standpoint.

Named to his second Pro Bowl in consecutive seasons, McBride sits at 119 catches for 1,174 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those are all career marks for the fourth-year tight end.
“Honestly, I don’t really think about it. The more you think about it, I think the worse you play,” McBride said Wednesday when talking about his record-setting season. “I just want to go out there and do what I’ve been doing all year. Just go out there, be me, catch the ball when it’s thrown to me.
“If I catch enough to break the record, that’d be great. If not, I’m just going to do what I can to help the team win.”
More records in reach for Cardinals’ Trey McBride
With one more game to play, McBride can set another franchise mark before the offseason takes hold.
Needing just 31 more yards in next week’s tilt against the Los Angeles Rams, McBride can pass Hall of Famer Jackie Smith’s single-season franchise mark of 1,205 yards set in 1967.
Reeling in three more catches would also put McBride at the top of the list for the most receptions by a Cardinals player across his first four seasons, surpassing Anquan Boldin (342).
Either way, McBride’s season should culminate in his first All-Pro nod when it’s all said and done next week.
