Afton Scoresby, a two-time Wisconsin High School state finalist, has announced her commitment to swim and study at the University of South Dakota as part of the class of 2030. She confirmed the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:

Scoresby is currently a senior at Appleton North High School, where she has been a member of the varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. In addition to competing for the Lightning, she also swims year-round with Fox Valley Swim Team.
A sprint freestyle and backstroke specialist, her strongest events are the 50 and 100 free, followed by the 100 back and 200 free. Over the past year, she dropped a big chunk of time across those events: six tenths in the 50 free (24.18 to 23.58), over a second in the 100 free (53.08 to 51.94), nearly four and a half seconds in the 200 free (2:05.10 to 2:00.74), and over three seconds in the 100 back (1:02.16 to 59.43).
Scoresby registered her current best times in the 50 and 100 free just last month at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division I State Championships, while her PBs in the 200 free and 100 back were produced a week later at a local club meet.
At State, she finished fourth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free. She also helped Appleton North to runner-up in the 200 medley relay with a 22.81 anchor leg and sixth in the 200 free relay with a 23.49 anchor. Her ability to step up on relays and split well under her flat-start PBs bodes well for her potential inclusion on the Yotes’ ‘A’ relays.
She is a four-time qualifier for the State meet, finishing 14th in the 50 and 17th in the 100 in 2024 after swimming relay-only in her first two years with the Lightning.

At the 2025 conference meet, where both ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals are scored, Scoresby’s best times would have put her into the ‘B’ finals of both the 50 and 100 free. Notably, her best time in the 50 free is just 0.04 seconds shy of the 23.54 that was required to make the ‘A’ final. A time of 51.33 was needed to make the championship final of the 100 free, while 57.78 and 1:53.46 were required to make the top 16 and earn a second swim in the 100 back and 200 free
On the team itself, Scoresby would have ranked fifth in both the 50 and 100 free, ninth in the 100 back, and 14th in the 200 free. With graduations and continued development, she could become the team’s next go-to sprinter, but she won’t be alone in that effort.
Scoresby will arrive next fall as part of a talented class of 2030 that could shape the Coyotes’ sprint relays for years to come. The group features three sub-24/sub-53 sprinters in Sophie Blixt (23.6/51.1), Addy Tucker (23.5/52.7), and Lily Furrow (23.9/52.1).
The class also has depth across other events with Addison Forschee (back/IM), Addison Palmer (back/fly), and Elsie Boettcher (fly/mid-distance free).
